I would absolutely and obviously much rather play Spurs were we to manage to get through. We are more likely to win a trophy in that eventuality. Thinking in advance about the less embarrassing outcome if we lose is proper muggle chat.

a lot kinder than how I was going to put it

Rather spurs than Liverpool. We can actually beat spurs.

Liverpool are like man utd if they aren't playing well they'll get a jammy penalty or dodgy offside go there way.

Liverpool are blessed in finals I feel, probably the last team I'd expect to lose one other than Real Madrid. Whilst were cursed, approaching Benfica levels.

I could somehow accept losing to Liverpool. It would be expected. Losing to Spurs just doesn’t bear thinking about. I’ve got too many mates who support them and all the ‘Spursy’ stuff would be relentless

1-0 isn’t a big enough lead to take to Anfield, mind.

Honestly. The way I've been giving it large to my mates whenever we beat them. Fuck me. It isn't worth thinking about, as you say. I'm already nervous and we're not even in the final yet

So can someone explain my internal logic to me because it makes no sense to me.

I don't what Liverpool in the final as they have a bit of a hoodoo over use. Yet I also don't want to play Spurs as we have a hoodoo over them but my brain tells me all runs must come to an end.

Is this pessimism just the result of decades Newcastle supporting induced trauma?

Obviously I would rather Tottenham but sorry, we’ve lost the last 5 finals, spanning 6 decades, of course I’m imagining the losing feeling if we get there

Yous know exactly what we mean though. If we go through they're the better team for us to play absolutely no doubt, but just imagine if they somehow weren't Spursy and ended their trophy drought to the one club more allergic to them than them. It doesn't bear thinking about.

I’m amused at NUFC supporters juggling in their head who they want in the final due to the disappointments of the past while seeming blissfully unaware that we still have to actually finish the job against a really good Arsenal side.  The most NUFC thing ever wouldn’t be to lose to Spurs in a final; it would be to lose 2-0 at home to Arsenal and go out on pens :)

We've a surprisingy good record in semi's historically (i recall someone saying around one of the 98-2000 semi finals)

We’ve got a great record in SFs.  We’ve got through 16 of the 20 we’ve been in prior to this season (major competitions only)

White Hart Lane / Hotsput Stadium is our favourite PL away game for wins, but I don't think we ever beat them when they played at Wembley?

doesn't really bare thinking about until we finish the job against Arse

like others the thought of losing to them makes me feel ill

It is for a team widely considered 'big' like. 16 years, 4 finals and 0 trophies.

It's just that our drought is exceptional for a club of our size.

Beat them at Old Trafford last time we played on neutral ground. Unsure of anything else.

One thing I will say is that if we do get to the final, our support needs to be far better than it was last time. Didn’t bother doing anything til the 85th minute.

I find it hard to believe anyone is not thinking about the final and who we could get when the whole point of the semi final is to get to the final. I’d be following the other semi even if we were 2-0 down. The reality is all 4 teams are close to a final .
