They were no where near until their January business came good.

Hence the second part of my point, Asensio and Rashford gave them momentum.

Of course it helped. Its not allowed to do smart business in January?

Overall last year they coped well with CL football though. And that was the opposite of your claim.

It's just a stupid observation. Villa have been absolute shite plenty this season, including against us in the cup when we beat them comfortably.

Aye, plenty shite having just secured CL football with a game to spare. Must be sorcery or dumb luck managing to do that when you have to play two or three games a week, can't be any other explanation.

Also, you cite one game as an example, what about the one at St James where they absolutely walked all over us for the duration? Doesn't fit your narrative I suppose.

Villa can get in the bin but I'm pleased it's going to work out for them and Dracula after all the ridiculous pearl clutching around their team and performance against Tottenham. They did the right thing for themselves and are going to be vindicated.

They’ve been lucky this season mind Villa.

Yep, most important player for the way we play out for almost the entire season. Massive stroke of luck.

Ergh, good God, man. You said they hadn't been shite; they have. Plenty of times.

They're where they are on merit and credit to them; they're a good side and Emery has objectively done a terrific job. But what's got them there was an absolutely unstoppable run between October and Christmas. Other than that they've blown hot and cold.

Think you need to take a break from it all. Have no clue why you've turned this thread into the Anti-NUFC thread

TBF that 'OMG they're out performing XG' shite from last season has carried on.

We've had some seriously iffy spells, and some seriously good ones. The away at your place was our last really convincing away league performance. We've just had successive shite results against teams we should really have beaten. We've managed to 'manage' the whole season brilliantly, though, and Emery deserves huge credit for that.

You also look at the sort of performances John McGinn has put in recently, too, those don't get plucked out of the air. Emery isn't perfect, he's got plenty of things wrong this season (Spurs for example, which was a desperate low) but over the course of the season he's managed the whole spell superbly.

When he came 4 years ago, we were 17th and stinking of (another) relegation.

To do what he has done since then with a pathetic small net spend compared to the managers he's competing with, and the loaded nature of the system, is just incredible.

Pipe down. It’s been ages since I last pointed out that the stat nonces knew fuck all.

They weren't coping until they recruited.

They saw they were struggling and took action. It's something we can learn from.

Hope you don’t have a poor season next season. your fans will hate him.
