I hate to say it like, but she's about as IDpol-brained as it gets. Yes there's obviously misogyny and racism, yes there are rubbish male figures who get gigs, and yes she's had some unfair stuff thrown at her that a white male wouldn't.

However, the rubbish male figures don't get the big gigs and it doesn't seem to have crossed her mind that she might not be getting as much work as she did because she now has a reputation for being rubbish, partly due to systemic misogynism and racism, but also completely justifiably.

Individually she's not particularly good and also quite an unlikeable personality imo. But it's clear from listening to her that to her missing out is only possibly happening because of her gender and race.

It’s a difficult one when talking about Aluko specially because you have to completely accept the systemic issues she highlights while also factoring in the fact that she’s not really very likeable or watchable personally.

Her style is quite serious and there’s not really a market in the UK for that kind of pundit or analysis, even on top of the racism and sexism she will have obviously experienced.

She’s painted herself into this persona a little bit, which is understandable but probably doesn’t help get her on TV more. She’s an educated and quite serious person.

But as I said, the things she highlights are probably 90% correct in general.

I suppose with racism and sexism there is always the opportunity to blame individuals instead of systems. Even if in a few cases that might be true, it’s almost impossible to know which is which.

Wet flannel of a man. The audio clip is on Spotify from 38 mins

I'm all for hoying a woman back in her box like but other than her response being a bit clunky it's about what you would expect her to think. Proper catty move from the other lass namedropping Wrighty.

I listened to that and while journalists are definitely going to sensationalise the comments, I don’t think too much has been taken out of context. She’s clearly saying the likes of Wright are limiting opportunities and need to be aware of that, so it’s still a criticism of sorts (because she knows he could say no to being asked). It does just seem strange when he’s been such a good advocate for the game.

I listened to it as well, it’s bang out of order. She’s trying to be ‘diplomatic’ in saying “he needs to be aware” but she’s really saying he needs to stop doing it. Ian’s done loads to elevate the women’s game and it’s not been in an effort to further his own career. She honestly does so much damage to the causes she “cares about” when really it’s all about her and her screen time

Her main point was that they cannot let the women's game become over dominated by men. Coaches, officials & pundits. The women's game needs help to grow but you would assume the eventual idea is to have men being a minor role in their sport in the same way women are in the mens.

The host mentions Wright by name, forcing her to either backtrack, or give her opinion which she did. It was a proper stitcher move, she's put her on the spot and forced her to talk about one of her colleagues, I don't think she said anything bad about him though and his refusal of her apology seems a bit over the top.

Aluko repeatedly blows her own feet off and doesn’t come across as a particularly likeable person to me - though she’s hardly alone in the football punditry world on that score.  She often comes out with half-baked ideas and talks absolutely shite.  Again, she’s hardly alone in football punditry on that front either.  I wouldn’t doubt that she’s endured racism and misogyny, whether that is ‘open’ or not.

No-one though seems to have questioned why a white woman - Clare McDonnell - picks out Ian Wright (possibly the only ‘regular big name’ male pundit who actually has an extensive back record of supporting the women’s game) as the example for Aluko to spear.  Wright is far from the only male pundit I’ve seen on women’s football.  Aluko is getting pelters, but it was McDonnell who raised Wright as an example.

Odd that.

Interesting how we are not seeing as much talk of Madrid being better without Mbappe as Haaland at Man City. Not even saying they are better off without, but if it was Haaland, it would be talked about so much. "Last year they won La Liga and CL, and then Haaland came in, and now they won nothing. He is the issue." Etcetc.

Genuinely think she's a fucking danger, Aluko. She's absolute gold for clickbait but has no hint of irony or intention in the absolute shit she pedals.

She's a rank self-publicist to boot - in everything she says, she's effectively saying 'why wasn't I given the opportunity first'. Fancy telling someone that they shouldn't take work if offered it, man.

I think this is the right topic for this..

But my local Finnish team TPS plays for 2nd tier in the Finnish league, again hoping to get promoted. One of their rivals, EIF, who was relegated last season and tries to get back up straightaway, managed to fuck up gloriously. They have a quite an expensive team and are taking bit of gamble. And then this happens:

Their chairman makes a parent club agreement with a team in the top flight, so that they can move players after closing of the transfer window. Loan players to cover injuries etc. They pay the fee for the league and register it before the deadline 28th of February, but there are no news about this so no one notices. Last friday both teams release a statement that this kind of agreement is in place and how wonderful it is etc.

The problem is, that this kind of agreement automatically means they cannot get promoted. It is stated in the league rules, that making this sort of deal means you are not eligible for promotion. It doesn't even matter if any player moves between clubs or not. Well, apparently they didn't know this, so now there is panic. They have deleted the announcements from their websites, but the agreement can be seen at the league web page. Then they told reporters "no agreement was signed" etc bullshit, because the deal was made, sent to the league and fee was paid.

Season started week ago, but seems like it is over for them already.
