Not certain being transgender is a mental illness like, but I can't really be arsed to get into this in a football forum so I'll say no more

Great couple of pages lads, bravo.

FWIW I haven't said this like

Transgender isn't just one specific thing though. A lot of it is mental illness and autism especially is very common.

I don't know if that image is even trans. Like I say I was initially replying to what I assumed had caused offence.

Eh? I wouldn't have commented on the image of it wasn't for people being offended by it.

I said that because my initial assumption was that people were offended by using an image of someone perceived to have a mental disability as an insult, hence bringing up Barnes.

"The bloke in the picture, going off of that one image, looks seriously mentally ill, but as we see all the time on here that's fair game just seems daft to single Kenny out here."

I have no idea who the guy is or why he's wearing that.

The context is a distinction without a difference isn't it? I'm only talking about your posts where you're saying it's fair to assume mental illness based on what he's wearing. Can only take you on what you're saying on that one, unless you're not meaning what you're saying.

As an aside I dunno why anyone thinks Alan Barnes' is a forum meme because of his disability like, ironically I think someone had a go at me years ago on here because that was the assumption.

Someone reported me to Admin for saying mean things about Michael McIntyre.

It's fine for Barnsey to be a meme, or the word nonce to be used 3,684 times on the forum.

But slagging off a floppy haired unfunny middle class twat was simply going to far.

Admins sticking up for their own is what I heard.

Surprised it wasn't to do with you calling people "rain nonces"* in the weather thread 👀

That theory has been blown out of the water because any time someone posts an xG stat I reply saying they're a boring friendless nerd who lives at home with their mam and they've never ever touched a lady in her delicate parts

And I've never had a warning, so Admin don't seem to want to stick up for their own in that instance

So just so I understand where we're at here, outside of fancy dress, you don't look at that image and think there's reasons to believe the person may be mentally ill? You just see a normal bloke cracking on with his day? Or a trans woman with no other underlying illness?

Because I'm not denying that I get serious mental health concerns looking at the image.

I'm not saying that is definitely the case and I wouldn't have brought that up without assuming that is what the offence was is my point.

Barnes is a meme because of his disabilities, how they affect his appearance and the way he acts - the way he treat the lass isn't meme worry without the rest. I don't have an issue with it but you cannot deny that you have to be willing to rip the piss out of someone's disability to find it funny.

Rain nonces, freaks and deviants was what I heard - autumn nonce might have also got an airing.

All power to you brother

Howay man Bobby. McIntyre is hilarious, a national treasure.  When he scares people in their bed and that. Comedy genius.

I don't look at the image and think about mental illness at all, no, that's not an 'ooh look at me' I just think that's a pretty baseless assumption. That's not to say I look at it and think it's 'normal' but abnormal fashion sense and mental illness aren't bedfellows and any other assumptions I might have about attention seeking for example still stop short of anything about mental illness at all. That's kind of what I mean when I say if it's not bigotry then it's possibly just being a bit sheltered. Sorry, I know that sounds a bit patronising. Can only speak personally like, but I think if you have any experience of being part of or dipping your toes into counter culture where free expression through fashion is more the norm (eg punk, dnb, drag), I think one of the first preconceptions you lose is judging books by their covers. Even just if you've been to Camden 20 years ago, you might find it a bit weird or whatever, but I don't think you're walking around thinking of it like you're walking through St Nicks.

On Barnes, I just don't agree really. I'm not naïve, I know that his appearance undoubtedly plays a part in him being a figure of fun for a lot of people, but I don't think it's at all the main subject (on here anyway) vs his character, the tight fistedness even with someone who raised money for him, the relentless moving houses, the one-liners he's come out with. There's no way he becomes a meme if he's just a bloke who looks like he does that got burgled years ago. I argued this at the time tbf, I think it's a bit patronising to hold back on laughing about how he goes on because of his appearance and (assumed) disability, but I get that not everyone thinks that.
