I don't look at the image and think about mental illness at all, no, that's not an 'ooh look at me' I just think that's a pretty baseless assumption. That's not to say I look at it and think it's 'normal' but abnormal fashion sense and mental illness aren't bedfellows and any other assumptions I might have about attention seeking for example still stop short of anything about mental illness at all. That's kind of what I mean when I say if it's not bigotry then it's possibly just being a bit sheltered. Can only speak personally like, but I think if you have any experience of being part of or dipping your toes into counter culture where free expression through fashion is more the norm (eg punk, dnb, drag), I think one of the first preconceptions you lose is judging books by their covers. Even just if you've been to Camden 20 years ago I don't think you're walking around thinking of it like you're walking through St Nicks.

Maybe, but there is also higher rates of mental illness in some of those sub cultures like, it's not like there's no correlation. Obviously a punk rocker wouldn't have me assuming schizophrenia or out.

I'm not sure what subculture determines a middle aged man to dress like a 14th century anime goth princess, but there has to be some accountability for walking around in what most people would assume was fetish gear.

It could be just be fancy dress, or he's at some event like

 Sorry Hanz but just cos you don't get why he's dressed like that doesn't mean he's mentally ill. It's a pretty big leap.

Would it be fair to say that the bit in bold might be because you're of a generation that's been taught to know better than to make that assumption?

That maybe the hans of the 1970s wouldn't know better, and would make assumptions like that about punks, or Bowie and Boy George types?

That maybe the hans of the 2040s might know better when it comes to the assumptions 2020s hans is making?

Hope that makes sense, I just don't see much sense in what you're saying like, weird or unusual has always been a thing and although the whole 'deconstructing gender' thing has come to the fore much more in recent years not just in subcultures but in the mainstream, I don't see any logical automatic step with any of it to go from that to mental illness.

That guy is bald and middle-aged and has learnt not to give a fuck while taking one of the few fashion choices still available to him. If he looked like prime Jon Hamm but still chose to dress like that maybe then we could start to question his mentality.

At least we're back to the fashion choices which was exactly what I was alluding to when I first posted the pic.

Boy George kidnapped a bloke and strapped a bloke to a radiator like

Bowie was also very possibly a nonce.

But I do get your point, it could absolutely be some gender bending punk attempt.

I'm just saying I cannot personally see it with this case, and if I saw him cutting about in Aldi I would assume there was a fair chance he was off his trolley. I would definitely give him a wide berth if I was with the bairn, I don't think that's too mental but whatever

I don't automatically assume anyone wearing alternative gender bending fashion is a nutter and I've never said that.

Here Hans I fully appreciate your support but calling Bowie a nonce is too much man. 😆

Yeah, so you're describing how your mind works with this in practice. Presumably if I said that that's just a practical definition of prejudice or bigotry though, bringing in those terms would be the point where you'd kick off with me.

I'm not arsed as I find It a bit mad tbh. It might be prejudice, but it's against one photo of one man who I think looks a bit batty

Fak's a size 28 waste tbf to the lad, so he probably could squeeze into those tights and Claire's accessories skirt designed for teenage girls.

Always imagined Fak as a fatty.

Am I alright saying that?
