Scotty66
Fantastic result for us with West Ham winning. We have similar games to Man Utd, they have home advantage but we have a 2 point head start plus goal difference. Liverpool at best have 2 games to get more points than we can get in 4 games, again with similar games. We're still in a great position!

More likely we need to acknowledge that ‘clear and obvious’ doesn’t mean ‘clear and obvious in one replay’. Clarity increases with more information and in this case more angles = more information. gdm
The only complaint I have about the penalty incident is the inconsistency. Ref got told by var to go to the screen today whereas the incident this week for Liverpool v Fulham the ref didn’t go have a look and VAR went with the refs first decision when clearly it was wrong. Just a lack of consistency. Edited May 7, 2023 by gdm

The ball hit Lindelofs hand while it was hugging his body, which isn't a pen, but then his hand bonked the ball into his own face ffs If he hadn't reacted/flinched when the ball hit his hand the first time it wouldn't have been a pen but how on earth you don't give a pen there is beyond me. Has there been any explanation? I wasn't paying attention but in the Norwegian studio I thought I heard they say the ref had blown the whistle to end the half just as it hit him...? Pata
Getting a penalty for a ball that hits defenders leg is pretty fucking clear and obvious error lads.

I know that's what it's meant to be, it's just not how it gets used. Love that clip of Shearer going in on them, it's exactly my issue with it. I like VAR, assuming it's used to correct blatant errors. I don't agree with it being used for hairline offsides etc
Conjo
In my subjective opinion clear and obvious error for offsides should probably be if there's air between the attacker and defender. Like for the famous Isak vs Liverpool goal I don't understand how it is possible even with VAR technology to 100% determine, unless they're filming with with like a 1000fps camera, that the leather on the passers foot touches the ball before Isak is past the Liverpool defender. Paullow
I see we are generally down to 1/8 across the board now, still firm favourites, but obviously not as near nailed on as we were this time last week. Man Utd are generally 2/7, so more likely to be pipped if someone was, and they have struggled these past few weeks, have key players out, an FA Cup on their mind (which may come into play later), but I still think they are probably in a better position than us. Like us, they are strong at home, haven't been beaten there since the opening day and have 3 very winnable games at OT that should probably see them over the line. Our fixtures aren't crazy hard, but I see more chance of us slipping up at Leeds and at home to Brighton than they do in their 3 home games. It's still in our hands to get it wrapped up before the final day, but I do kind of think it will go down to the last day now. Without wanting to sound like a doom-monger, and it's genuinely more out of curiosity than pessimism, but apart from the 2.8 or so million, is there any difference in finishing 5th or 6th in terms of European schedule? Obviously both are Europa League this season the way the cups have worked out, but would 6th involve an extra tie?
