The Europeometer™ (2024/25) - NUFC Qualify for Champions League

Recommended Posts

True but we are so close now that it will feel like a disappointment to miss out on CL especially if there are no PSR issues it may give us chance to really push on. However, at the start of the season if you offered me the cup and a top 6/7 finish which "should" be guaranteed I would have snapped your hand off for it.

It's crazy how one game can change everyone's mindset. Was only a few days ago when people were talking about chasing down Arsenal for 2nd. I still have faith in this team and it's not Newcastle without a few bumps along the way.

Regardless of where we finish, it's been a superb season. We have a team that we can be proud of.

Would have been delighted with 10th or below if it came with a cup win. Everything else is a bonus in my eyes.

Win the home games and that’s all we will need.

Pretty much agree with this the only worry is holding on to top players like Isak and Tonali, if where not in the CL it could enable teams to turn their heads, though I’m confident PIF will dig heels in due to length still on contracts.

I'm convinced we beat Ipswich and Chelsea, and that if we need points versus Everton to get the job done that we'll get them as they have absolutely nowt to play for. That'll do it IMO.

We're long overdue a result at Brighton too and they've been very patchy this season and will have no Pedro on the day.

Bad weekend for us but it's still in our hands and I think we'll do it.

You're right of course, I just don't think anyone was expecting how much we were outplayed against Villa. A draw or City win would leave Villa either 4 or 5 points behind if we beat Ipswich. This is a massive gap with only then 4 to play and a far superior goal difference.

Chelsea at home is also an absolute must win, as if we do, then they will have to make up 5 points from Saturday until the end of the season. We have the same goal difference currently, but that Chelsea match will count as double goals in reality either way.

We are still in a very good position to qualify, other teams around us will drop points and we have just got to make sure that we don't let this massive opportunity slip away. Qualification into the champions league, will probably result in a big difference to our incoming summer transfers

Grand scheme of things is that CL qualification probably trumps winning the League Cup in terms of what it means for the club's mid to long term future.

Spurs fans likely wrote similar for several years in the 2010s

You are arguing against yourself since you are relying on results from January to make City look they are in such a good form. Over the last couple of months they havent looked like a team that are dominating their games, and the results show the same.

Top is most recent. A continuation of this with those fixtures that they have left gets them top 5, it's as simple as that. They just need to keep picking up points like they have been doing, nomatter how much you try to bend it to seem like their results have been bad lately. If bad form means not winning every single game, then yes, in that world their form isn't good.

Again you are cutting of the results at a point where its convenient for your argument, include the game before and you will get the same 50% win ratio im talking about.

Im not saying that City are in bad form or that I dont think that they will make it into top 5. Im saying that its far from certain that they will win the rest of their games other than Villa.  They havent shown that kind of dominance at all. Infact I think its more likely than not that they wont do it.

So if they were to draw against Villa it would leave us in a good position to finish ahead of them, which might be needed in certain scenarios.

I still probably would prefer City to win though, as it would leave it much more up us getting a good result vs Chelsea. Which I think is very achievable. But a draw has its upsides aswell.

If we don't beat Ipswich, we don't deserve CL. Yes that's one win, but the picture would be much brighter with a win.

We win home games we get top 5. I just can’t see Chelsea and Villa (this is dependent on City beating Villa) getting more points than us over those games if we get 9 from them. Basically means Villa / Chelsea have to win every game which they’ve not shown this season being capable of.

The Chelsea result was exceptionally annoying ffs, they really are loathsomeI think we’ll feel a lot better about things if we beat Ipswich on Saturday which we really should if we want CL.

Week after the fixtures will really shake things up.

I still think we have the hardest run-in.  I still think we’ll make it but the cocksureness of some of a few days ago should have disappeared

Agreed. That’s the most important factor.

Agree. People are saying they wouldn't swap it, neither would I. But if we want to keep our best players and be seen as a top club worldwide, we need regular CL football.

Just need to remember, CL this season should be considered a bonus. 6th or 7th plus an actual trophy is incredible.

It's never a bonus when we have players like Isak and Tonali.

A villa win would give them real momentum

They've already got momentum.

A draw is bad. Villa win is bad.

Minimum requirement is finishing above 2 of the teams in the chase. That's most likely to be Villa & Chelsea at this point.

Best likely case scenario at the end of the weekend - 2 points ahead of Chelsea with a better GD, 1 point ahead of City, 5 points ahead of Villa - effectively 6 points.  a smaller gap to 6th.

Think Chelsea are always liable to drop points though.

Ah yeah, and then you are cutting right before the 4-0 game vs us, so it will never be equal. The game before the Spurs game they lost to Liverpool. Bar Villa they are facing no opponent remotely close to what Liverpool were at that time, so including that game seemed pointless. Again, if I am uncluding that then I am cutting it right before their biggest win of the season. If I was only interested in pushing an agenda, I would have included both of those games, as the total of those 2 (considering oppoonents) only strengthens the idea that their form has been good. We can include the game before aswell where they got trashed by Arsenal, but then again, what they are facing are nothing like those teams anyways. If we look past the strongest opponents (since they are already done playing them), they are consistenly getting more than 2 pts per game against the type of teams they have left.

They might absolutely draw a game, but even a loss against Villa and a draw against mid (or low) table side puts them in a great position if they win the other 3. They will have 68 points if so. They are the favourites for 3rd place accoring to bookies, and to use one of your quotes, "it is for a reason".

our next three games are the most important; ipswich and brighton are down on form and should be winnable, chelsea at home is a "six-pointer", if we do them then I think we qualify. Mancity or villa are going to drop points this week so we must take advantage...

Have to beat Ipswich & Chelsea. Any result against Brighton would be brill. Win all 3 and we are there I think.

I think we all agree that any path towards the CL starts with 3 points against both Ipswich and Chelsea. We'll probably need to beat Everton on the final day too. Sneaking a win against Brighton or a point away at Arsenal would be very very handy but not necessarily crucial. The 3 homes are the key

According to the predictor I did this morning three home wins would be enough. I had us finishing 5th but 4 points ahead of Villa. I did predict a point at Brighton. I think 3 wins and a draw is more than realistic for us. I may have been too harsh on Villa. Be class to go into the last game not needing anything.
