We face 4 genuinely bad teams, unless Frank is sacked Chelsea are another bad team.  And then Arsenal and Brighton at home. We could get 16 points and finish 3rd.

Spurs were done last weekend and Brighton are done today.

And if the Scousers put together a run to finish 5th or 6th, it will be fecking perfect. Thursday night football for all those magical Anfield European nights.

I'm with TCD on this one.

 

Liverpool can't be discounted, but they've given themselves a lot of work to do. Their best run this season has been four wins in a row and they look incredibly shaky at the back.

 

Even if they if they defy this season's inconsistent form and put up 72 points, they're counting on us to drop another eight points.

 

I think both sides will drop points in the remaining games when we least expect it.

On top of that, we'd only need 2 more wins from 5 with 2 home games and Leeds away to come. Even a point tomorrow isn't a disaster imo, think we'll win at least 3 home games and beat Leeds away.

Agreed, they may have been more vulnerable for the taking if they were still in the mix. But by the time they play us they could be completely out of it and might be relaxed to play a good game. 

 

Or....they will be completely broken and go on a horrendous run.

The bookies essentially think Liverpool are our only threat now.

Salina and Tomiyasu are massive misses for them. I don’t think either will play again this season.  
 

That’s partially why I think it’s so important we reinforce defensively when we’re in the CL.

The manner of that defeat will be hard to take, complete non-contest. They have a derby v Chelsea on Tuesday then us. St James will be fully radged up again and I don’t rate that Holding at the back for them, he changes their whole play.

Aye. Confidence aside they are so weak with Holding and Gabriel as their defensive 2. Was it them 2 last season?

The biggest threat is the refs, it’s been proven again tonight they are doing everything to help Liverpool.

 

Expect serious refball in our next few and hope like vs Brentford and Forest we can overcome it.

That’s the thing. A Bruno injury (and by all accounts he’s nursing an ankle knock) means draws or worse instead of wins. Until Liverpool drop points I’ll worry.

We need to win 4 and draw 1 of our final 7 games to finish above Liverpool.

I know Brighton can get more points than Liverpool, but if they mess up in just 1 games this season they can’t. They play us at SJP, and they play teams around them, and average 3 games, so they will end up dropping points.

Our form this season so far indicates that we would get the 4 wins and at least 1 draw that would be required.

On top of this, in our remaining fixtures we play 4 of the current bottom 5 in the league. A Chelsea team who in absolute free fall, an Arsenal team who are slipping up and could be 2nd in the title race by the time we play them, and a Brighton team who will likely be knackered by the time we play them.

 

I think at the moment the problem is that we play after Liverpool, so when they get a good result we are looking at it as them putting pressure on us. As someone else has mentioned though, if we beat Everton tonight, and Southampton on Sunday, we could be 12 points clear of Liverpool before they next play, and all of a sudden their fans will be thinking like we are now.

If we do win both of those games then we could be in a position where we only need 7 points out of 5 games to mathematically confirm our place.

I do not fear Liverpool, who are ropey at the back and ekeing out wins with set pieces.

If you do fear them, note that they will not catch our goal difference with the single goal wins they are having.

7 goals is absolutely nowt in terms of GD, a game or two can easily change that

 

I'm not saying that Liverpool will overtake us but I don't think we necessarily have the GD edge because if Liverpool win all their games as some expect then there won't be much in it in terms of GD*

 

*Though hopefully we can change that by getting a couple of comprehensive wins against Everton and Southampton
