Anthony Gordon (now playing for FC Barcelona)

Recommended Posts

Gordon is hard to price as he’s a good PL player but he’s not at the level of the elite. Eze went for 60ish? Mbuemo 65m? So 65m sounds right to me but we also paid 55m for Elanga so it doesn’t feel right.

I think people are acting like it’s completely impossible that Gordon might improve in an elite environment.

It isn’t.

we have to insist on 75-80. People not liking him as a person is irrelevant, that many champions league goals in a mediocre team warrants that price tag these days.

I think in football circles he's very highly rated, has been at all age groups. And now he has the CL exposure.

I do agree he's not really at the very top level though.

His first touch is really inconsistent and he's not good when pressed, often giving the ball away cheaply in dangerous positions. Unless he can improve those areas he'll never be a top level player.

Fairly sure Dortmund made a big play for him at 17.

I think even comparing the lad who arrived to where he's at now, he's taken a big jump. Nothing to say another step up wouldn't draw out the same improvement.

Gordon cost us £45m, has CL experience and years left on his contract. Palace and Brentford signed Eze and Mbeumo for a relative pittance so far easier for them to turn a big profit with a lower fee, and neither had played in Europe until this season.

Don't disagree with your point perse but our initial outlay has to be a factor in pricing IMO.

I still expect him to go to Liverpool tbh. They need wingers and he offers cover for Ekitike for next season without them having to buy another striker.

Two birds. One stone.

Given the circumstances (25, full england international, 4 years of his deal left, best years ahead of him and can play two positions very well) I'd be gutted with anything less than £80m.

Or, using the world reknowned Elanga scale, £300m+add ons.

The passport alone is worth £20m

Should be easily making 40m profit on him.

We owe Everton, so selling him for anything under 70m, we have failed massively (not that I think we will).

It does seem like we're going to start to see some pressure on the top end of the market due to the rules catching up with many, but £70m has to be the bare minimum (and even that feels low). It's tricky though with us needing money and knowing an unhappy Gordon would be a completely useless player.

I've realised how this deal makes sense. Can you imagine how many penalties he's going to win when it's Barcelona he's diving for?

And when he downs tools there like at Everton and here, then he can go to Bayern or wherever...

Makes the fee pretty interesting if he’s heading to Barca, they havnt been known for spending massive amounts on single transfers for a good few years now.

Think the number will disappoint many on here.

Another benefit, he's not going to be playing Everton anymore, which was always his kryptonite.

Glad it's 'moving fast' but selling immediately as Barca want to avoid bidding against others seems a bit farfetched. They'd really have to match our valuation for that surely? Hopefully that's not the £60m being bandied about, as that's shite.
