They’re not fans they’re employees, I’m still not sure how folk can’t get their head around that.

They are sportsmen, they are team mates, they are heroes to the fans, they are idols to kids, they represent the club and the city. They aren't just an employee the same as someone working at a bank.

Saying they're employees ranks alongside all that matters is winning even if I'm falling asleep every game. I watch football to fall in love with my heros, I watch football to be on the edge of my seat excited for what's happening now and what comes next.

But lets be happy with a future of let's bring back the NUFC legends, we've got Gordon he was here for a couple of years and moved to big old Barcelona, then we've got Isak... hell maybe we bring back Owen as well he would fit in well if we're treating footballers like employees who couldn't give a single thought to the club or the area.

It seems strange that they are paying £70 million for Gordon when they could have had Rashford for half that, I don't particularly rate Rashford either but he is better than Gordon and at half the price it seems a no brainer.

He's not better than Gordon.

Plus, his contract demands will be much higher, and he's older, so they'll not want to be offering him a long contract which will affect amortisation.

Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick and sporting director Deco are admirers of Gordon, who they see filling the role played by Marcus Rashford this season. Rashford, 28, spent the campaign on loan from Manchester United, registering 14 goals and 14 assists in 49 appearances. Barcelona hold a €30m option — which expires on June 15 — to sign Rashford permanently.

The Catalan side have yet to decide whether to take up that option but believe a deal for Gordon, despite involving a higher fee, could end up having a similar financial impact to Rashford due to the former Everton man’s lower salary demands and their willingness to offer him a longer contract, due to his age, enabling them to amortise the cost of his transfer fee over a longer period.

The club wants a versatile forward who can act on both flanks and provide top-quality depth to their attacking line. In Gordon, Barca’s decision-makers also see a player who, beyond his attacking qualities, provides that much required off-the-ball pressing. There is also the belief that mobile players and willing runners can also help maximise the qualities of Barcelona’s main star, Lamine Yamal. Gordon ticks all those boxes, and those at the club are convinced that playing under manager Hansi Flick will only help the England international to show his best version.

Also if things go tits up for Gordon, some EPL team will give Barca their money back in a couple of seasons, pretty risk free transfer.

Assume they won't sign Rashford now. Unless maybe they want more options for CF as well.

He can act on both flanks except the right.

Losing our most effective attacking player in the opposition half for a second year running carries the obvious big risks.

I'm sure someone knows what they're doing but it wasn't addressed properly last time, mainly due to the protracted nature of things and the constraints on time it led to, of course.

We absolutely have to get it right this time, our summer recruitment has to be bang on.

I wonder if some of the squad are happy to see him go?

I don't think he was the most popular from what I've heard.

Interesting because I've heard he was well liked and down to earth.

Just shows how it can be :)

Downie: "He can play a number of positions, too. Ordinarily, he's played off the left-hand side in a 4-3-3, but he's also been used a lot through the middle, to devastating effect at times."

Fucking when

I'm liking this deal more and more. Gordon's been stat-padding with pens and a hundred goals against Qarabag, and every "analyst" out there is scrambling to make sense of this deal. Yes, on his day he's a great player, but damn, it feels like we're conning the footballing world.

I’m not so sure. I think when fully motivated and/or in a functioning setup. He is lethal. If he gets back to short back and sides radge Gordon. Then he is going to do some serious damage.

I also think that whilst it isn’t a bad deal by any means. We could have perhaps got more money if he went to another prem club. But I’m happy he is going abroad and that it is all getting sorted quickly. So no real gripes there.

However, I do think he is actually quite limited as a player outside of his pace and work rate. I’m sure he will have another big strop and a sulk at some point. Pretty unforgiving over there with the media and fans.

I think he will do well over there, mind. Whilst also at the same time thinking he really isn’t a Barca level player. But that just shows the state of the modern game and the path we are going down in terms or playing styles, I reckon.

Playing for Barca has a romantacism that cannot be rivaled by any PL club. It's a great advert for Newcastle that someone we trained and helped become the player he is today, is wanted by one of the most coveted clubs in the world by english players.

This does us no harm whatsoever. It's a very good transfer and will make up and coming stars want to come to us over other clubs. Until we are at the top of the food chain, we will have to sell to bigger animals sometimes.

But this being on our terms, no drama, good fee, good relationship with barca.. its up there with the best deal we've done!

Flick apparently doesn't like Rashford.  He wants wide players who will track back and contribute to the press.  Rashford doesn't do that, it's one of the reasons he's been playing less lately.  Gordon will do all of that, and do so for 50% of Rashford's wages too.

Even more reason to like this transfer as it messes up Man United’s plans a little, (petty, yeah I know).

Did selling Raphinha to Barca helps Leeds appeal to buy younger players?

I don't buy into that argument tbh.

Well no.

They got relegated. 🤣
