That chance he hit over the bar wasn’t that good a chance anyway. Tight angle and defenders and goalkeeper around him. If it’s the one on the YouTube highlights.

Yeah, he should’ve done better, but I didn’t expect it to go in. It’d have been a good goal if he scored it.

OK, let’s not have the debate about signing a second striker yet again.

That’s not the debate for me. It’s more a question of why when we only have one recognised striker he’s not getting minutes.

Should've been Schär tbh. Schär scored a brilliant modern pen against Wimbledon and if Pickford does that stealing against him he scores 100/100. Not a fan of Isak's pens either, wish we addressed that and make them learn the patient technique and not just hoping the goalie jumps the other way.

Then Gordon got to be the dropped on pens. Cant shuffle the pen takers around if its Everton, Villa or Chelsea. If Gordon is the pen taker he takes it everytime.

Why does that have to be the case? Why can't they have a different list of pen-takers for each game depending on the matchup against the opposing keeper?

Gordon might be a better penalty-taker against most keepers but in this case, Pickford probably has some advantage against him being his former club teammate and current country teammate.

Think a better first touch and the angle would have been better tbh.

Have I got it right that Everton fans treated Gordon like shit? No wonder Liverpool fans call them bitter.

I generally don't have issue with Everton but I think since our hounding of Pickford they've taken a real disliking to us and us having Gordon really has got their goat so to speak. The commentary from Carragher regarding Gordon was always "Left for bigger things" etc. on Saturday almost making it out they were hard done by. He's played in the Champions League for us since and had his most productive couple of years, improving as a player after being bullied and hounded out of (I believe) his boyhood club. That, is the reality.

They're rancid. One of my favourite bits from the game was when they forgot to boo him at one point in the second half because they were to busy chastising their own players. By the time they'd remembered to boo him he'd already released the ball.

Saw a still image that some Everton gimp posted on Twitter when he is about to hit the ball.  Fuck me, Pickford went early.  He's almost on the deck and way off centre before he's even kicked it.

You notice against City and on Saturday.  He doesn't look at the keeper at any point during his run up or for quite a bit beforehand, actually.  I guess every player has their process and the style of looking at the keeper, waiting for them to go is a fairly new and not that common approach.  Toney, Jorginho, Schar off the top of my head, for example.  Isak, at times waits for the keeper to start moving.  But I think if you're not trying to give the keeper the eyes or see who blinks first.  You really need to be hitting the corners or going for the Shearer thunderbastard special.  Gordon certainly didn't do that, it was tame as fuck.

Probably over-thinking it as it was just a pressure penalty back playing at a ground where 90% of the people there don't want him to do well and are audibly abusing him all game.  But I'd rather Schar is our penalty taker if Isak and Wilson (haha, good one) aren't on the pitch.

He played well overall but hasn't been in sparkling form so far this season anyway, tbh his finishing has always been a weak point of his game that he needs to work on, despite his numbers last season his end product let's him down at times, do think the occasion got to him on the pen though, and in hindsight he probably shouldn't have taken it.

Good analysis. I think his penalty at home was class, picked his side, hit it hard and low and banged it in. He usually does those type of penalties if i recall, and this one being a tame one was out of character for him. FYI, as good as Fab is - he also has missed with his style too (see the Euros in 2021), and Isak was perfect last season until Sheffield United at home and then in the summer preseason.

You've 2 types of penalty takers that IMO, those that pick their spot(Harry Kane the best example) and those that wait for the keeper to move which seems to be the norm nowadays. Gordon's obviously the former but you need to be sticking the ball where the keeper can't save it regardless which way he dives. Otherwise you're reducing a penalty to more or less a 50/50 chance of conversion. Gordon's penalty against City wasn't a good one but he scored because the keeper guessed wrong, Saturday Pickford guessed correctly and he saved it. He's a confident guy and clearly wants to be the taker but given how lacklustre a finisher he generally is in open play I don't think he should be taking them. Hopefully Isak or Wilson are on the pitch for the next one so it becomes a moot point.

Those penalties are probably my biggest football pet hate. I’d fine anyone who takes one like that regardless if they score or not. It’s baffling how clubs hire set piece coaches but continue to allow players to take those “50/50” penalties.

Watch the penalties here (11:32) and spot the wimpy, piss-weak one that decided the game.

Yeah, it's almost like a 50:50 if he's hitting it like that. It doesn't even seem like he's trying to smash it in the corner - I think his pen v Man City is saved too if Ederson goes the right way. Strange one. Additionally, he said after Man City that he takes no notice of the keeper, so Pickford knew fine well that he could dive early.

edit: pretty much said above

The fact they were celebrating his penalty miss more than their actual goal tells you all you need to know.

The one thing that really annoys me about them is the fact that Gordon wasn't a seasoned pro, it's like us running after Miley to give him loads of shit when he's clearly came in and done his best from a really early age.

They've always won ugly, especially in the last 30 years. I remember shearers first game down at goodison, a goal disallowed for nowt, and they just hacked the shit out of us. Big Dunc fouled Watson and penalty to Everton. That's how they seem to win

I hate to be that guy but we'd have given him similar levels of abuse. In fact when Andy Carroll returned to Newcastle he got absolutely hounded when he missed a sitter/dived.

I don't blame them one bit for using the story to create an atmosphere.

The social media post is classless mind but that's because they've nowt else to shout about. Shite side, shite manager and a inferiority complex. They are sad little scouse mackems.
