England’s Anthony Gordon

Recommended Posts

Howe has a huge decision to make this week, don't think Gordon is giving enough to justify an automatic start next week. Certainly should be Barnes starting at LW next Sunday with either Murphy or Gordon on the right. He's looked miles away from his own high standards for a while now and his sloppiness today cost us the winning goal today. If Joelinton is fit then I think I'd go with Murphy on the right and give Gordon 35 mins off the bench to use his pace against a tiring Everton. We've been in the position of not having anything off the bench for a month now and he's the last one you'd want to see if you're Ashley Young or Mykolenko.

No one has any idea what's going on in his head but he's playing like he's unhappy with something. He certainly doesn't look like he's enjoying his football atm. Huge week for everyone at the club, need every oar in the water right now

I’m overly harsh on him and far from his biggest fan. But all the talk of selling him seems mental to me.

I’d much rather we unlocked whatever it is that gets him back to last season’s form, attitude and work rate.

He'll be fine, but he does need a right kick up the arse and telling that the underlying message from all these books he likes reading is that it's all already inside you, you just need to go and fucking do it.

Might be a good week for Big Jam to have his seasonal dust up 😅

I echo the statements, I don't think it's any kind of knee jerk, I think it's just the attitude shown today has brought a lot of what has been bubbling under, up to the surface.

There's no denying his talent, we've seen it last season, however bar a patch of 9 games mid-season he's not been great at all this season. He looks half-hearted at times, sloppy and off the pace and his diving has become much worse, compounded by his petulant rolling around on the floor when the whistle doesn't go and the ball is still live, get up!!

One of our best players by far when in form, he needs to work hard to get back to where he was and he needs to bring the arrogance and petulance down a peg and realise that right now Barnes is the better option.

The red card before the final was stupid but I understand the red mist coming over him. But today he seems lazy and disinterested for such a high stakes game. He's not putting the graft in, closing down or pressing high.

He's hugely talented but he's currently not in the mood to show it for whatever reason.

Very surprised he was kept on. Absolutely shocking going forward and even worse at the hard work bit.

I suspect his peak value would have been last summer. But he’d still get close to 100m if we sold. Just not sure who’d bite based on this season.

No he wouldn’t. Wasn’t rumoured to be £100m last summer. It was around £70m.

Agreed.  We wouldn’t get a crazy fee for him anyway

His defensive work rate has dropped off massively, gives the ball away a lot and looks lacking in confidence. It seems to be a mental thing if you ask me.

It seems to me like he’s been totally different in body language and impact since whatever happened with the Liverpool transfer proposal. He seemed so happy at the club, he doesn’t seem the same lad at all. His game has become massively inconsistent to the point where how would you even sell him now, knowing how good heis capable of being, but that his value has dropped massively this year. Not that I’d want us to sell

Gordon has bags of everything, pace, intelligence, technique, finishing.

I think sometimes being so thoughtful and self aware isn’t good for him, maybe leads to him dwelling on things and being critical.

Hopefully he can come back firing next season because at his best he’s a really top player.

Not sure I agree with technique and finishing. I think it is very up and down for someone that plays that position.

I do take your other points, though. It was like last season he played on instinct and emotion. This season he is over-thinking it.

I’ve said on here loads he has started slowing down his play and trying to survey the pitch before making a decision. But it rarely works with him.

He isn’t an elite playmaker who is going to pick a pass. But he is elite at isolating players and running at them with the ball. So more of that, please.

yeah, I don’t think Gordon has even good technique or finishing. He’s about passing and movement. He’d have more than 6 goals this season if he was good at any of that stuff.

Don't think he was atrocious, but he was poor. I don't like how he has the LW spot nailed down as his despite how well Barnes has played there whilst he was out, nor do I like how he seems to be untouchable regarding being substituted.

Unless someones really really wants him, you dont sell a player like him when he has had a period out of form.

Doubt anyone would offer anywhere near where his potential value could be atm.

To me he was clearly our best player last season, Im willing to give him alot more time to let him get back to his best.

Im more annoyed at Eddie for letting him take Barnes place than Gordon himself tbh.

It’s nothing new, fans want to sell different players from week to week depending on results/performances.

Wasn’t long ago that Trippier was deemed finished and should be offloaded, now people are clamouring for him to be back in the side.

Correct. Some people are idiots and always will be. Entitled to their views, obviously, especially on a forum but idiots all the same.

Not sure why people love to talk about getting rid

Gordon has been poor since the sending off against Brighton but prior to that he was good

He's a good player with some weaknesses (such as his finishing and general passing, which can be too casual) but he's very much an important part of the squad

As it is, I would not be starting him on Sunday, the game is too important and he's not shown he's worthy of a start
