midds Posted Sunday at 18:08 Share Posted Sunday at 18:08 Howe has a huge decision to make this week, don't think Gordon is giving enough to justify an automatic start next week. Certainly should be Barnes starting at LW next Sunday with either Murphy or Gordon on the right. He's looked miles away from his own high standards for a while now and his sloppiness today cost us the winning goal today. If Joelinton is fit then I think I'd go with Murphy on the right and give Gordon 35 mins off the bench to use his pace against a tiring Everton. We've been in the position of not having anything off the bench for a month now and he's the last one you'd want to see if you're Ashley Young or Mykolenko. No one has any idea what's going on in his head but he's playing like he's unhappy with something. He certainly doesn't look like he's enjoying his football atm. Huge week for everyone at the club, need every oar in the water right now
Lush Vlad Posted Sunday at 18:11 Share Posted Sunday at 18:11 I’m overly harsh on him and far from his biggest fan. But all the talk of selling him seems mental to me. I’d much rather we unlocked whatever it is that gets him back to last season’s form, attitude and work rate.
Kilcline Posted Sunday at 18:17 Share Posted Sunday at 18:17 He'll be fine, but he does need a right kick up the arse and telling that the underlying message from all these books he likes reading is that it's all already inside you, you just need to go and fucking do it. Might be a good week for Big Jam to have his seasonal dust up 😅

There's no denying his talent, we've seen it last season, however bar a patch of 9 games mid-season he's not been great at all this season. He looks half-hearted at times, sloppy and off the pace and his diving has become much worse, compounded by his petulant rolling around on the floor when the whistle doesn't go and the ball is still live, get up!! One of our best players by far when in form, he needs to work hard to get back to where he was and he needs to bring the arrogance and petulance down a peg and realise that right now Barnes is the better option. The red card before the final was stupid but I understand the red mist coming over him. But today he seems lazy and disinterested for such a high stakes game. He's not putting the graft in, closing down or pressing high. He's hugely talented but he's currently not in the mood to show it for whatever reason. Absolutely shocking going forward and even worse at the hard work bit. I suspect his peak value would have been last summer. But he’d still get close to 100m if we sold. Just not sure who’d bite based on this season. No he wouldn’t. Wasn’t rumoured to be £100m last summer. It was around £70m.

It seems to be a mental thing if you ask me. It seems to me like he’s been totally different in body language and impact since whatever happened with the Liverpool transfer proposal. He seemed so happy at the club, he doesn’t seem the same lad at all. His game has become massively inconsistent to the point where how would you even sell him now, knowing how good heis capable of being, but that his value has dropped massively this year. Not that I’d want us to sell
MagMal Posted Sunday at 19:20 Share Posted Sunday at 19:20 I think he is burnt out mentally and physically, hopefully a summer of rest and he will be on fire again next season.
Norseman Posted Sunday at 19:23 Share Posted Sunday at 19:23 Definetly do not sell, but he should be on the bench next game and whatever is bothering him needs resolved for next season.
andyc35i Posted Sunday at 19:26 Share Posted Sunday at 19:26 Selling him for for north of 70m would be great business in my eyes, it won’t happen so he’s not going anywhere

You sell players when they are performing at a high level so you get the best fee. Sell Murphy this summer?
AyeDubbleYoo Posted Sunday at 20:08 Share Posted Sunday at 20:08 Gordon has bags of everything, pace, intelligence, technique, finishing. I think sometimes being so thoughtful and self aware isn’t good for him, maybe leads to him dwelling on things and being critical. Hopefully he can come back firing next season because at his best he’s a really top player.

I think it is very up and down for someone that plays that position. I do take your other points, though. It was like last season he played on instinct and emotion. This season he is over-thinking it. I’ve said on here loads he has started slowing down his play and trying to survey the pitch before making a decision. But it rarely works with him. He isn’t an elite playmaker who is going to pick a pass. But he is elite at isolating players and running at them with the ball. So more of that, please. Smal Posted Sunday at 20:19 Share Posted Sunday at 20:19 (edited) yeah, I don’t think Gordon has even good technique or finishing. He’s about passing and movement. He’d have more than 6 goals this season if he was good at any of that stuff. Edited Sunday at 20:20 by Smal
Thumbheed Posted Sunday at 20:20 Share Posted Sunday at 20:20 Maybe me, but I've felt like he's not gone in the outside as much as he did last season which makes him a bit easier to defend against. As for the stop, drop and roll, really wish he'd cut that out.
HaydnNUFC Posted Sunday at 20:24 Share Posted Sunday at 20:24 Don't think he was atrocious, but he was poor. I don't like how he has the LW spot nailed down as his despite how well Barnes has played there whilst he was out, nor do I like how he seems to be untouchable regarding being substituted. Tsunami Posted Sunday at 20:24 Share Posted Sunday at 20:24 His finishing is terrible. It’s quite a feat how regularly he misses the same shot into the far corner. He must bury them in training.

Displayname Posted Sunday at 21:00 Share Posted Sunday at 21:00 Unless someones really really wants him, you dont sell a player like him when he has had a period out of form. Doubt anyone would offer anywhere near where his potential value could be atm. To me he was clearly our best player last season, Im willing to give him alot more time to let him get back to his best. Im more annoyed at Eddie for letting him take Barnes place than Gordon himself tbh.

Wasn’t long ago that Trippier was deemed finished and should be offloaded, now people are clamouring for him to be back in the side. Entitled to their views, obviously, especially on a forum but idiots all the same.
Geordie Ahmed Posted Sunday at 21:23 Share Posted Sunday at 21:23 Not sure why people love to talk about getting rid Gordon has been poor since the sending off against Brighton but prior to that he was good He's a good player with some weaknesses (such as his finishing and general passing, which can be too casual) but he's very much an important part of the squad As it is, I would not be starting him on Sunday, the game is too important and he's not shown he's worthy of a start
Displayname Posted Sunday at 21:26 Share Posted Sunday at 21:26 (edited) Wouldnt mind starting him as a striker if Isak is out. Not that I think he is good there, but just lack of other options. Edited Sunday at 21:27 by Displayname
