Financial Fair Play / Profit & Sustainability - New APT Rules Approved by Premier League

Recommended Posts

FFP is bullshit anyway, it’s supposed to prevent clubs from going into administration but it fails on that front. It still happens. And penalties for that happening were always in place anyway, now the clubs just get the points deductions ahead of schedule, sealing their fate as it were.

If a club has the money, let them spend it. Is it fair? Nope. But the PL as an entity with massive tv deals brought this into the game.

Once upon a time clubs outside the very top 2/3, were happy if they could lure some aging Italians to the league for their swansong, now nearly every PL club right down to the bottom can rival most of Europe’s clubs for new signings.

It’s in the interest of the PL to allow clubs to go for players like Mbappe if they can afford it. More eyes on the games = more revenue. Everyone benefits from the trickle down.

In the case of our PSR balance.. I don’t think it’s a huge sum. Something that selling say, Matt Targett could probably cover.

Villa, ourselves, Chelsea, Forest, Leicester and Everton ay

Just six clubs that had or have ambition which is now a bad thing and banned henceforth.

If you don't have ambition or just give up that's fine.

What a mess.

Chelsea took the piss imo - so have no sympathy for them - the rest I agree

I’m fairly sure that the club knew they were sailing close to the wind.

I guess part of our problem is that other clubs are also getting close and will concentrate spending on what they actually need as opposed to chucking 5M or so for Matt Targett. We need to get a couple of Saudi teams to shift say Miggy and Targett.

Yeah. Because of that and the commercialisation (headed by the usual) it killed the possibility of anybody being able to grow anything organically and challenge at the top and because success equates to money and without money you cant have success its a closed shop unless investment is allowed.

Can't wait for the Saudis to bail out Chelsea, just to make it even worse.

This could just be another way for the media to make more stories about our players being sold though, no? They love using the phrase "desperate to sell".

Going to be laughs when some of those teams are forced to sell some of their prized assets to the established clubs on the cheap to avoid points deductions. All coming up as intended.

They’re just trying to spend what they want and going through every loophole to do it. It’s not pretty but you can’t hate what Chelsea are doing but still want to kick off our own PSR shackles at the same time.

Getting their “super league” one way or another. Even if that’s a closed shop within the league!

If we've got to sell Bruno to Liverpool or face a 6 point deduction, that basically tells you everything you need to know about these rules. There purely to keep the 3 American owned red teams at the top amd handicapping anyone trying to challenge them.

Not even debatable, I'll take the deduction now.

Go mad, take the points hit. We lost about 15pts last season not having a squad. Let them come at us and then tie them up in court.

Chelsea selling themselves hotels, ffs. No backbone on that, they can't pick and choose the rules, thryll be destroyed in any court across the land.

Also go and buy a £30m defender on the 1st July and sue the PL for that stating we lost a free transfer in tosin to Chelsea who are latent preferred cheats and that's what it cost us to replace.

Could have a field day with them. They aren't cash rich. £20m would see the PL bankrupt, and as we know bankrupt entities can own football clubs so they certainly can't run a league.

Fuck them up, any means possible.

What an absolute shitshow the premier league has created.

I like most people am absolutely sick to the back teeth of hearing about ffp and all that.

this is the close season, we have the weathiest owners in the world and we are in the news not for which players we are trying to attract, but instead for either having to sell some of our best players or face points deductions..

And what for? Because after 14 years of having our revenue and club stripped away while the premier league watched on and done nothing about it, we spent in the grand scheme of things, a fairly reasonable about of money to try and rebuild some of the damage that had been done, and challenge once again. Plus we have had to cope with new regulations brought in within days to try and stop us at every turn.

The fact that some people at certain clubs can't handle the thought of competition makes me wonder why they bought into the clubs in the first place, as that is what football has always been about.... Competition.

Sorry for the rant it's just depressing that this is the narrative and the media is taking such glee in desperately trying to sell our best players to any of the so called elite.

I would have thought that the media would love the story of one or two new kids on the block to disrupt the status quo... But I guess they are all too much in the back pockets of a handful of clubs.

Having that many clubs (so far) in breach of the rules along with the debacle of last season is just not sustainable like. It's going to crash at some point.

Its nefarious business practice in any walk of business but in sport its just absurd for the established top competitor to prohibit competition. Its probably why its never been done until recently as much as all the top competitors of times gone by would have benefited from it, it was just too obvious.

We are only trying to break the shackles because of clubs like Chelsea in the first place though.

For what it's worth, Ornstein reported circa a month ago we were fine. Either way I imagine we're sailing close to the wind though.

Wouldn't be at surprising if this is a tactic from the likes of us and Villa given the timing.

Not sure on the date windows but our league position could have put us in breach I guess.  2-3 million per position.

I kind of think all the clubs close to breaching the limit should just break the rules.  The league was a shit show this year with 2 relegation teams losing points, getting them back, not getting them back.  6 teams going though this will make the league look like an utter farce.  Losing credibility in the league could drive change more than anything else.
