Forest statement is in line with his opinions on what FFP is about.

Shots fired there, alright. If there's a consensus between clubs who could all be adversely affected (which is most of them) and we're not the ones leading the charge because we're hated, it could tip the balance.

It seems increasingly journalists are being briefed in what it really means also.

Perhaps Masters has been playing 1d chess this whole time.

The club did very well at keeping the spotlight on this during the transfer window. Eales, Ashworth and Howe all made statements to the effect of "we've got an insane injury crisis, but our hands are tied because of PSR".

Yup. I didn't see it at first, and hadn't given Eales much credit. But on review it's clear it was timed and worded with care. These lot know what they are doing. PL & Masters haven't got a clue.

Said a few weeks ago, we're working towards breaking this system behind closed doors. NDM being involved just solidifies that for me. Our team is slowly building. We started off on day 1 as a solo entity, just narrowly getting through after 18 months of illegal blocking, and no one wanted to know. In fact it was said no PL teams would deal with us. I bet its a very different setup now. We'll have seeds planted everywhere, and it looks like its all coming together and on the surface, we've said and done fuck all, and kept compliant, but we're tearing the PL inside out. I cannot wait to piss on its corpse.

Lovely imagery, the PL is absolutely rotten to its core. Hard to imagine a scenario where it’s not rotten but it’s about to get turned inside out

Maybe, but NDM being involved doesn't mean anything specifically. There'll be a very limited pool of sport's law specialist barristers and the cab rank rule means they don't get to choose who appoints them.

I know cab rank rules apply in Criminal Law………..this would be competition law and CAT, owners of clubs can engage their own legal counsel surely?

Yeah I'd forgot about that.

Well, I still want a giant Wor Flags surfer of him for the next match.

It applies to all areas of law that barristers practice in as far as I'm aware. It's the other way around, the club can engage whoever they want but a barrister has to accept if they are free and it's within their knowledge and expertise.

The cab rank rules apply it means people can’t refuse instruction. So if NDM is available he can’t refuse to act, there are workarounds.

Cab ranking if you use legal aid aye…….but if you can afford the legal bills you can instruct the best lawyers money can buy, Man City as an example.

That's kind of my original point, I was replying to a suggestion that NDM being involved means we're dictating it from the background. Which it doesn't, Forest have just engaged one of the best from a very small pool.

The thing is, it's not just Everton and Forest is it. Leicester also had FFP issues which contributed to their relegation. Wolves were in trouble and we're one of the favourites for the drop this season - Lopetegui walked out before a ball was kicked. Aston Villa have recorded losses incompatible with PSR.

Any ambitious club that tries to challenge the 'big six' finds themselves in bother with PSR. Then further up the league, nobody can touch City. It's only through Klopp, one of the best managers the league has ever seen that City haven't won about 7 in a row or whatever it is.

Of course it suits most PL clubs as it makes it harder for smaller clubs to come up and establish themselves. Being on the PL gravy train trumps all for the likes of Palace and Brentford.

The Premier League was built on a free market and you had more titles shared across clubs than any other major league. Financial restrictions based on income are no good for competition. La Liga is completely skewed towards Barca and Real in Spain and look how dull that is. PL fast becoming like the Bundesliga (save for this season), only even more dull with an established top 6 most seasons.

Apparently Leicester are still in bother but can't be charged because they're in the championship now? If they get promoted they could start next season on negative points.

They (successfully) argued that they shouldn't have to provide a business plan to the EFL (showing how they would avoid a breach of FFP/PSR) because they weren't in the EFL last season but they haven't avoided FFP penalties all together.

It’s hardly pathetic to hold someone to account for statements they’ve made.

She flippantly said it in the hours after the take over. It was hardly a well set out plan for a league win. Did you actually believe it? I didn’t, and I was still chuffed.

Did something change in the time from the takeover to a few months later,  FMV wise ?

The threat of the super league by the so called big 6 is why ffp is set up heavily in favour of them.. no coincidence its got heavier since that threat.

Is this what you're referring to, at 8:50? She was responding to a question about where she wants to see us long term, Keith Downie says 5-10 years but she clearly isn't putting a timescale on it in her response. Across the whole interview she's actually pretty measured and talks about it being a long term investment, the need for patience and to work within FFP.

Thanks for this, it's really fascinating. And that's why we're on forums rather than twitter.

Edit- I also loved the number of semi un-guarded comments there were about 'cases you will know' (not referring to us), as it feels like a discussion between friends

She says lots of things, which she often has to recant later.  Her interview with talkSHITE after the league cup final (‘we will win the premier league, we will win the champions league’ etc) was a case in point.

Al-Rumayyan was still talking about being ‘no. 1’ on that Amazon doc.

I’m daft enough to believe words have a meaning.

Yep, almost immediately afterwards.  That talkSHITE interview was in Feb 2022.

It is, though she’s given others since.

Absolutely…….they all know their stuff and have argued and won these cases before tribunals and Courts. I have no doubt that some of the issues we discuss on here will be tested legally. One of the comments that “football is special, but not as special as it thinks it is” kind of resonated especially now that it’s a multi billion pound industry. Competition Law should apply, after all the 20 PL clubs are all listed as businesses at Companies House.

A lot of abbreviations being used in here and absolutely nee fucking idea what half of it means. The leagues being dicked by the big 6 still aye? Champion. That makes sense.
