Benwell Lad
Problem (if it really is a problem?) for Anderson, and now Miley, looking to breakthrough at Newcastle is who is in front of them. Arguably the best midfield three in the PL. At a different time they'd have been first choice regulars. Posts above on Anderson don't really take into account the unfortunate circumstances that when his real opportunity came, and he would have been a nailed on starter, he also got injured and that is when the 17 year old Miley was thrown in and did so well. Otherwise Anderson would have seen far more game time. Miley's recent limited game time when he often looks inhibited, playing very much to instructions, has led to doubts on here and I agree he needs to be unshackled. However never doubt just how highly Howe rates him and has always wanted him here in his squad. So does the rest of football and if he did leave Newcastle (unlikely) he would be snapped up by one of the big clubs not loaned out to the Championship. khay
He needs to be in our squad from a Newcastle point of view until January champions league games are done with. Then we can decide if he needs to loaned out or he might request a loan if he never got enough game time. January also gives us some scope to get a replacement in. janpawel
Would have been a good idea to sell him with a buy back after 2/3 years, say sell for £30m and buy back of £60m Use the sale money to buy a 5th quality midfielder, so we have 5 quality options + Willock. Then in 3 years Bruno will be 30, Joelinton will be 32, if he's become the player we hope then we could buy him as part of a midfield revamp after 2/3 years and Miley will still be
janpawel
Similar to what Liverpool have done with Quansah I guess Edited September 9, 2025 by janpawel Spelling
madras
With Bruno starting for Brazil tonight, playing at altitude and all the travelling I wouldnt be surprised if Miley started on Saturday. nufc4eva
I think it's worth remembering he's just turned 19 a few months back, had that injury that kept him out as well before last season. He will get plenty of game time this season with the schedule we have. I think he suits being deeper in that Tonali role more than on the right of it. No chance Bruno doesn't start. He doesn't even need to train any way. Hes match fit, just get rested up and give him his tactical instructions. Some people will misunderstand this and think it's an accusation of Miley or other kids being shit though. The reality is it's just a key modern way of bringing through youth players for top teams now - sadly.

We need a feeder/partner club, it's been the apt way for a lot of clubs to give their youngsters experience for over a decade. Arsenal, Chelsea, Man City, Wolves, Brighton et al from the Prem alone have one

Taking the upcoming fixtures into account, id say there's a chance he doesn't start, or there might be a 1st 45 only type of idea in place. The next 2 will be the games he starts, then maybe have another rest in our cup defense.

He’ll start anyway. As I don’t think Joelinton will be fit and based on a hunch and purely off training footage I think Ramsey might also be missing. So unless it is that 3-4-2-1 again. Which I really hope isn’t. I think he starts.
gbandit
Think he’s largely done ok today. One poor pass I can remember, some decent work on the ball and some middling work off the ball. Hasnt looked out of place at all and just needs more time

The College Dropout
Proper solid performance. Doesn’t lose the ball often at all. Keeps things solid. Disnt stand out as a weakness. The problem is he’s standing in for a Brazilian international. The gap (even a poor Bruno) in impact is night and day. Bruno is going to get us up the pitch. Miley is sideways or back. That’s not Mileys fault. He didn’t put a foot wrong really. I just wish he was somewhere on loan learning to really impact a game or control it and we had someone closer to ability to Bruno able to come in. But can’t fault the lad today he held his own and is good minutes for him.

Your average 19 year old would stick out as a weakness under pressure or in some other way and Miley doesn’t. Composed. Finds his man. Good prospect.
