Lewis Miley: signs six-year contract extension (Official)

Recommended Posts

I think he can do a job for us this season as a system player but that's all he'd be. Someone you could hoy in, not do anything daft, and that's about it. If he has the confidence I think he could be an unreal talent though, and going down to someone like Boro or WBA where he'll see he's good enough to dominate games will definitely help that when he steps back up a level or two.

Are the coaching staff not trying to get some aggression into his game?

We've all championed having our talented youth stick around the first team, but they're hardly progressing at a good rate.

Not saying Miley was bad today. I just want him to fulfil his promise.

Doesn't make it into this 'top 200 teenagers' world-wide list, screenshotted England-based players for reference.

The 510th Football Observatory’s Weekly Post presents the 200 footballers worldwide who have not yet turned 20 with the best CIES ratings for matches played in 2025. The score is the average of two values: a performance index calculated from the data exclusively collected by our partners Impect, and an experience index taking into account minutes played, weighted by the sporting level of the matches.

FC Barcelona’s prodigy Lamine Yamal tops the rankings with a CIES ratings of 97.7. The Spaniard has the highest value in terms of both performance and experience indices. He outranks his compatriot and teammate Pau Cubarsí, while PSG's French international Warren Zaïre-Emery completes the podium. Roger Fernandes (SC Braga) is the highest-ranked footballer not playing in the big-5, just ahead of Geovany Quenda (Sporting CP, already signed by Chelsea).

The highest value for a footballer playing outside Europe was recorded for Elías Montiel (CF Pachuca). The Mexican ranks ahead of Brazilian Rayan Vitor (Vasco da Gama) and Argentine Santino Andino (Godoy Cruz). No fewer than 48 leagues are represented in the top 200. The three youngest players listed are Mexico’s Gilberto Mora (Club Tijuana), Poland's Oskar Pietuszewski (Jagiellonia Bialystok) and Serbia's Vasilije Novičić (IMT Belgrade).

Pings the ball well but only to the side and back.

Big lad but it’s the top 2 inches that are the problem. He was better 2 years ago when he was playing with real enthusiasm. Let’s see how the season rolls out. But for me, looks like we only have 5 midfielders that can comfortably start a game and we have too many games this season for them to last. Need an addition.

Does reference in there that minutes played and the level they’ve been played at is a major part of the calculation. The fact he barely played last year will have impacted the calculation significantly. Very interesting this though and most of the names you can’t argue too much with. Do we have previous years to review in order to see how well the players have developed?

Don’t think this kid is ever going to reach Longstaff’s level, never mind beyond.

Disagree, he was better than him two years ago. Once he’s playing football regularly he’ll go on a big improvement curve

When it comes to Miley I think it's important to understand that he's always coming in to the team and having to fit into the system but playing different roles without any consistency or continuity.

As other have said, he basically needs a loan but that isn't possible because we have 3 injury prone midfielders so he has to stick around and provide cover.

I thought he looked tidy, his passes were always to feet and he made himself available he just wasn't very dynamic but no-one was  the plan was obviously to stay compact and he did what was asked and was disciplined about it.

He made one loose pass that set them up on the break and other than that he played well, if a little passively in attack but as others have said, everyone was shit yesterday and it was a different role for him

A lot of those players in that list have played next to no minutes in the Prem? And from those that have there's only really Bergvall who has shown consistently better form in centre mid.

Miley looks like a possession monster DM to me, playing him in the box to box roles he just doesn't have the tenacity we need, atleast atm.

Minutes in other leagues will count more than barely any minutes in the PL I’d imagine

I've got no issues with the list, just pointing out with regards to Miley not being on isn't really that shocking. There's very few centre mids his age looking better than him in the league and only Bergvall (rightly) makes it.

He came on at 0-0, in a twitchy game at HT still in that weird formation. Being safe is understandable, wasn’t like Burno was playing the forward balls either. Only Tonali from all the players were, which was often the quick switch out to Tino on LW :D

Main things I look into his game, is his positional play and showing for the ball. Recycles the passes well.

Put him in a 4-3-3 when the front three is an actual front 3 of quality, he’ll look far better, like everyone would be compared to yesterday. He’s also had a season where his confidence would’ve been knocked.
