Whitley mag
@Heron it’s simple for me only a designated area of at least 3k clearly advertised as a singing enclosure can save the atmosphere. This has to be aligned with members being able to choose their own seats to sit with pals. An area for fans under 25 would also be welcome.

However they think is the most appropriate way of going about that, more standing, singing sections, whatever. Obviously something to try and reduce the random seating nature of ballot ticket seating that currently could place a family with young kids next to a couple of absolute radgies. One other thing, which in fairness might not be totally appropriate, is something @TheGuv raised a couple of weeks ago. When away clubs return tickets, is that area safe standing when subsequently used by home fans? Because as he described in his post, the ambiguity clearly caused some friction. Need it get Leazes end up. 2. Have a younger adults section near away fans or more standing to bounce off away fans. Family section too big. 3. Allow ballot winners to pick seats. They are three biggest ones for me, we simply have to like minded fans together.
Wallsendmag
@Heron Scrap ballot. Allocating fans random stands is always going to be an atmosphere killer, and so it's proved. Make entire Gallowgate (12,000 spaces) safe standing. Work with current ST holders who don't want to be part of it to enable them to move to other areas. Set tickets aside for younger supporters. I think they do this for 14-17 year olds in L7 but I'd take it further and prioritise applications from fans aged under 30 for a larger safe standing area. bobbydazzla
@Heron 1) create large sections of safe standing in both Leazers and Gallowgate official club comms to say we're doing this for the greater good and change will be needed, including the prospect of some seat moves for ST's 2) fire a rocket up the arses of ST holders via club comms at renewal time. It's not "their" seat and they need to do some self-realisation that if they're going to the match to be negative then they need to either change their attitude, or stop going The club could suggest other hobbies the negative twats could take up to allow them to evade going shopping with the missus at weekends. 3) sack off allocated seating so like minded people can sit in the most appropriate area for how they want to support sack off the ballot too 4) find a way to get younger (18-30) supporters into same part of ground where they can be loud and bouncy without the old codgers moaning 5) we do need somewhere for families, but it doesn't need to be most of L7 6) remind them the singing area in L7 corner was absolutely class back in the day. as is Strawberry Corner currently. We’re capable of creating a great atmosphere match after match, if we get right people in right places Edited March 12, 2024 by bobbydazzla
ponsaelius
The most important thing for me is definitely making it so fans can be together with like-minded fans as much as possible. Just got back from a weekend of going to Parma, Modena, Bologna, Fiorentina - 3 of which I stud in the curva. Noisiest ultras gather in the middle near the front, those who like to stand and sing a bit float towards the edge of this core, and then out again to the older fans and kids on the periphery who are able to sit and watch without their view blocked. It's conducive to a good atmosphere as people are naturally gathered with like-minded folk. Unfortunately the uncovered stands, crumbling stadia etc almost certainly discourages a lot of middle/upper class and tourists fans from coming so attendances in other stands suffers (we would never have that problem) - but the self policing nature of the curva underlined just how ridiculously shit randomly allocated seating through a ballot actually is. A decent sized standing and singing section in the Gallowgate would be great. And let ballot winners pick their seat if there has to be a ballot. AyeDubbleYoo
Do we want the organised ultras sections like in Europe and the US? It's never really been a part of our culture. Would create noise but there's something weird about the noise being detached from what's happening in the game.

I have very limited experience of attending other European grounds, but it definitely stood out to me that it was often just noise for the sake of noise, that bore no real correlation to what was happening on the pitch, and thus has probably limited effect on changing what happens on the pitch. So even though you may not get the periods of ‘flatness’ that you often get at large English grounds, it didn’t feel like it does when you’re in SJP (or another English ground) and the atmosphere is ‘up’. I guess it’s just a question of what can be done to help get that ‘up’ more frequently without resorting to the monotony of the European ultra-style? AyeDubbleYoo
Yeah, it's not an easy answer what's right. For example the flag waving continues throughout the match in some places, where we put all the flags down for kick off. Personally I wouldn't mind watching the toon ultras from nearby, but I couldn't be bothered to be in amongst it. bobbydazzla
@Heron Whinestoppers. A confidential hotline to report negative behaviour detrimental to atmosphere e.g. moaning throughout game, going for a pint on 30 mins, leaving at 80 mins, telling people to sit down, amateur manager chat, excessive use of phone Just contact the hotline with the offenders seat number and they get a text after the game to tell them they're now under surveillance. 2 more strikes and they're banned for 5 games. Successfully grassing on someone who subsequently gets banned means a reward of a 1/2 price ticket to a game of your choice Edited March 12, 2024 by bobbydazzla

It doesn't need to be 'ultras' with flags or banners in the same way. That will always come across awkward in a UK context. I'm just talking about getting like-minded people who want to stand and sing together in same part of the ground to make noise. The same way it often happens naturally at an away game with 2-3 thousand like-minded people together, and I presume used to happen pre all seater stadia. ponsaelius
I find the biggest generator of 'monotony' is the drum. Ultra groups without a drum are better, and more likely to undulate naturally with the game in terms of nerves, tension, in drop silences after goals etc. It's a good balance between the performative and the reactionary elements to an atmosphere. Drums I find overwhelm everything and set things to one beat - and they never seem to stop. A bit like the England band.

Gallowgate 100% to be all standing all singing / noise ! black n white wall bring back level 7 singing section next to away fans - used to be great also means noise from both ends Scrap the current announcer make it more of a natural pre match build up I would love a proper Sam Fender (Newcastle anthem) song before the game (instead of the half hearted blaydon races that no one sings or joins in with) Cuts out half way and the crowd sing the remainder (whole hearted) !! Obviously he would need to write a specialised Newcastle song !! Based on the area / hard times / hope / special club / in it together

In a city built on sweat and toil, We stand together, in blood and soil. (Chorus) Newcastle, Newcastle, our hearts beat true, For Newcastle United, we'll always come through. In the streets we roam, in the stands we sing, For our working class city, let the memories ring. (Verse 2) Through thick and thin, we've seen it all, From St. James' Park to the local hall. With grit and passion, we fight the fight, In the shadows of our city's light. (Chorus) Newcastle, Newcastle, our hearts beat true, For Newcastle United, we'll always come through. In the streets we roam, in the stands we sing, For our working class city, let the memories ring. (Bridge) From shipyards to stadiums, we stand tall, In the face of challenge, we give our all. For the Magpies soar, as we stand side by side, In Newcastle's glory, we take pride. (Chorus) Newcastle, Newcastle, our hearts beat true, For Newcastle United, we'll always come through. In the streets we roam, in the stands we sing, For our working class city, let the memories ring. (Outro) So raise your voices, let them hear, In Newcastle's name, we hold dear. Wolfcastle
Can't see the ffp rules helping with atmosphere here or anywhere else. Big part of it is the hope of a journey towards better times, or the fear of losing status. If neither of those things is possible, especially with the newer fan mentality, how passionate can they be about a game against Wolves that likely means nothing beyond the head to head.
