Anybody who's interested can do their own research like everybody else had to, though. This isn't Panorama, it's just a general interest publicity vehicle. If they hadn't mentioned it at all it would have been infinitely more sketchy than them just standing by the same position they always took Edited August 11, 2023 by OpenC
bobbydazzla
Bit of a contrast after watching Premier Passions y'day Was an interesting insight, not much we didn't know already but it's for a wider audience, not people who live and breathe Newcastle Would have been interesting to have a fly on the wall crew knocking about whilst Ashley & Charnley set about destroying the club from within, then see how that compared to the professionalism of the new leadership Edited August 11, 2023 by bobbydazzla
Dr.Spaceman
The David Rubenstein bit cracked me up when he mentions getting the sovereign wealth fund to a trillion dollars and Al-Rummayan is like "Two trillion dollars" Going from the least ambitious to the most ambitious owners in the world is such a Newcastle thing to do. 80
Watched it. It's alright... Trying to think from a non Newcastle perspective, but I'd say it's lacking on history - to explain roughly what the club is. Realise they probably can't slag off Mike Ashley for legal reasons, but a bit about former heights like the Keegan days, the 1950s and our support's reputation wouldn't have gone amiss. To set the scene. Also, I feel it hasn't captured the magnitude of what's taken place on the pitch, and Eddie's achievements here and previously (the comments about him relegating Bournemouth, without even a sentence of context, felt like Steve Bruce had written the script and stuck in my throat). Why would the club put any faith in such a character? Well, he's learned what not to do... Realise that's meant to be a little joke, but to a total outsider who has no clue - if that's who it's for - it just sounds stupid. To be honest, the thing feels like it's been produced for an audience of one particular Prince. Edited August 11, 2023 by

The legal assurances the premier League required. They don't need to clarify anything more than that really it's not the platform for it.

We were 1-0 up on aggregate going into a 2nd leg at home against the team that was bottom of the league. If we were in any danger of ever losing that especially after going 2 nowt up on the night it would've been a bit of a disgrace tbh. Also remember being more gutted about Bruno getting sent off than elated about getting to the final. Suppose I'm just a miserable cunt. Aye same but there was certainly a worry permeating throughout the crowd after the red and it being 2-1.
patrone
I enjoyed seeing some of the behind the scenes stuff, although we all know its a TV programme, there will be loads more we don't get to see. I'll wait until I've seen all 4 episodes before complaining about what should, and should not, have been shown. We all know how the story pans out, but I'd imagine it will be far more exciting for those on the edges of that have so far just had a passing interest in the club, and I'm sure it will help with our global audience. Thank fk they never did anything like this under the previous owner.
Mazzy
They went much further into the season than I was expecting in this first episode. So I'm assuming either the next episodes are much shorter (30/35mins) rather than 55mins or they go much more in depth into the last 3 months of the season. andyc35i
I’m going to have to wait until episode 2 and watch both at once. The wife is away and told me specifically that she would like to watch it with me. She enjoys a good football documentary and it’s another chance for me to get her more involved with all things NUFC

ponsaelius
Yeah I got the impression filming only really kicked in properly around December time based on that episode.

To be honest, the thing feels like it's been produced for an audience of one particular Prince. The role of Eddie in turning things round didn't get much attention, but I think that's how Eddie would have wanted it, and it's clear he was never a fan of having the cameras around. His lack of due prominence was probably at his own request. Personally, I didn't mind the focus on the new Board and ownership, because it was very much linked to the support, the city and the players. Those business people were totally hooked on the fortunes of the team on the pitch, and despite the gap in everyone's backgrounds, the sense of a common cause felt very real. Amanda came across very well. She seems very much the one who is holding it all together. There was a lovely bit where she was facetiming Anthony Gordon after he'd signed, and she was cooing like a mother hen - 'We'll look after you'. It is more than a purely business venture. I can see it attracting more supporters from the uncommitted in different parts of the world. Supporters of other English clubs will find it very irritating ha ha
ponsaelius
Really enjoyed the focus on Longstaff and his cup goals. I'd almost forgot how great a moment that was, arguably the highlight of the season. Sort of gets lost because of losing the final and the success of the season ultimately being defined by the CL qualification instead. Was really interesting to see how despite what was being said externally, pretty much the whole club was aligned on aiming for CL from November onwards. TheBrownBottle
Not available outside the UK, RoI and Scandinavia apparently. That’ll grow the club worldwide, then.
ponsaelius
You'd really hope it's just a case of sorting out distribution and they'll release it wider eventually. I had my Korean friend hyped to watch it, I'm amazed if they don't get it out globally.
Interpolic
Think the next ep will be largely about the buildup to the cup final and the game itself, and maybe a bit about bouncing back after it. Then hopefully the rest is focusing more on individual league games and how that run got us into the CL. Staveley is a lot more emotional than I expected, I mean that as a compliment as the club has clearly got under her skin in a big way. I already trust Howe massively with the playing side but seeing her contributions to the Gordon deal etc impressed me and she'll clearly make sure every penny we can spend is spent on the squad. huss9
underwhelming tbh. seems rushed and superficial. could have been a little more in depth in places. but saying that 3 more episodes to cover a lesser amount of time means we might get more insight and detail. Yorkie
As soon as Shearer was revealed as narrator I've never had any expectations of it being a documentary; it's essentially an in-house production, designed to make Newcastle and its various characters look absolutely ace. I've come to the conclusion that it's pointless over-thinking it or expecting anything remotely cutting or even balanced; just switch your brain off and enjoy it for what it is: pure NUFC porn. Bloody loved it, tbh. As a Newcastle fan who, like the rest of us, were marooned in sheer misery very recently - it was a sensational watch. We struck gold with Staveley like. ponsaelius
Exactly. It's never going to be a football documentary in its truest sense like Next Goal Wins, Diego Maradona, Sunlun Til I Die etc. It's basically a very a well polished PR exercise. Doesn't make it not enjoyable though if you take it for what it's worth.
