You’d hope with BVB more or less out of the title race in Germany and out of the cup they’d value the coming top of the group. You never know though. Even dropping half a % can be the difference. Just need to make sure we do our job and then we can have no complaints either way.

They are only a point ahead of Leipzig in 5th so they'll not be going easy in the league

The winter break coming a couple of games after the PSG could help in ensuring they still give it maximum attention

So being in the group stage plus one win and two draws has earned us about £17m so far, plus three home games at a minimum should be (50,000x£60) another £9m.

That's £26m at the very least.

Isn't the TV money paid out based on coefficient or something like that? I remember reading that we'd get a relatively measly amount even if we progressed quite far.

No way Dortmund lose to PSG. Finish second and it’s Real, Barca, Man City etc. no chance. We must actually be favourites to nick second spot, put Milan to the sword and we are through.

The bookies have us at 9/4 to qualify and PSG are odds on at 9/20 favourites.

I agree with you though and feel it should be the other way around but I’m guessing it is due to us needing 2 results in our favour whereas PSG only need one.

TV money and coefficient are separate. You can add another £3.8m or so for our coefficient amount. That is irrespective of how far you advance so it won't change regardless.

There's also a TV pool component, which has two parts. Half is based on where you finished in the league to qualify so we get the lowest of the English teams since we finished 4th. That amounts to ~£8.5m. The other half is dependent on how far you advance.

For comparison, City get ~£30M for their coefficient and ~£16m for their initial TV pool payment.

Wonderfully corrupt system to perpetuate the hegemony of certain clubs.

In the unlikely event  we beat PSG in the final, had we won the same amount of games, same draws etc in the run, they would get more money.

It is changing a bit when the new format begins next season.

Participation is going up from 25% to 27.5% of the total. Prize money is increasing from 30 to 37.5%.

TV Pool and Coefficient are being combined into one grouping that will make up the remaining 35% (which is 10% less than those two combined now). But as far as I know there are no details on how they are breaking this down and if that -10% is largely shifting later round TV money into prize money (which is essentially little change) or if they are actually reducing the financial benefit to a high coefficient, which to me is the most unfair part of the current distribution.

In two minds whether we should just rest players against Milan for the domestic league and cup campaign. Coz it'll be horrible us beaten Milan for psg to sneak through on that incident.

Fucking hell man.

The group winners are starting to look a lot clearer now

Group A - Bayern confirmed (anyone could finish 2nd)

Group B - Arsenal confirmed (PSV second)

Group C - Real Madrid confirmed (Napoli 2nd)

Group D - Shoot out between Inter and Sociedad, Sociedad just need a point, but Inter at home - will be confirmed before Dortmund play PSG

Group E - Shoot out between At Madrid and Lazio - AM at home and just need a point, so big favourites

Group G - Man City confirmed (Leipzig 2nd)

Group H - Barca 99.99% confirmed, 2nd either Porto or Shakhtar (Barca would have to lose to Antwerp and be a 7 goal swing with Shakhtar beating Porto)

So from Dortmund's perspective if they lose to Paris, they get one of Arsenal, Real Madrid, Man City, Barcelona, probably At Madrid, and one of Inter/Real Soc

If they don't lose they would get one of Copenhagen/Gala/ Man U (less likely), PSV, Napoli, Inter/Real Soc, probably Lazio, Porto/Shakhtar

Some decent teams who will likely be runners up, but it's clearly a massive advantage for them to top the group and draw one of the absolute favourites. I mean there will be a small chance they get a more favourable tie on paper by finishing 2nd, like say if Real Soc or Lazio won their group, but generally much more likely to get a really tough match. They won't be totally devastated if they lost, as they will have still advanced from a really tough group, but it's clearly worth their while to get something from their final game.

PSG will have that extra motivation from 'needing' a result as opposed to Dortmund. But another way of looking at it is Dortmund will have a must not lose mentality and there's greater pressure on PSG to come out and make a game of it away from home. They know we're capable of scoring a few at home so whatever's happening in our game, they'll feel they have to win. That'll leave them open to Dortmund's counters.

Feeling better and better about the PSG result.

It's one of those where it just hurts because of how it happened. If we had held on all game and equalized late we'd have been buzzing to finish 1-1.

Think we ought to have the tiebreaker over PSG if we end up level too. Not a huge stretch to think we could beat Milan and PSG get held by Dortmund...

If there is any justice in the world that will happen! At least European football is in our hands at home under the lights :indi:

On the subject of which result hurts more. It’s easily Liverpool for me. We lost that game because of our performance, to probably the team I would enjoy beating the most. The PSG result happened because of something completely out of our control. Can never get as upset when we were faultless. It’s less of an emotional feeling and more of just a “well, that’s just fucking shit isn’t it. We would have had a European night to rank amongst our best ever”

I think, over time, it will be remembered very fondly. "Remember that time we rocked up to Paris with a bare bones squad and beat their superstars until the refs cheated us?" It may also be one of the main catalysts for either VAR or handball law changes, so we can recall it 10 years from now in between arguing about whether the 2033 squad is deep enough to defend the treble.
