Country and players should be celebrating winning the World Cup, instead they've got this massive bellend trying to convince everyone he's not a massive bellend by being a massive bellend

All these years of @Village Idiot telling us how bad the Spanish FA is and it's still insane to see it all laid out here

The whole FA needs burning down to the ground and be built anew. This seems a chance of doing it, but I guess we'll end up with yet another corrupt scumbag at the top.

Them and La Liga, so utterly bad.

One of the worst parts of this controversy is Tebas scoring brownie points (he's been a sworn enemy of Rubiales for a long time, for all the wrong reasons though).

Suspect it's the committee members at top of Spanish FA that can directly get rid of him.

Government can't directly get involved as sporting organisations take a dim view of interference.  They do want him gone though hence them setting up a tribunal yesterday also Spain doesn't have a new government yet after elections last month.

Last time the government tried to increase oversight on the FA, FIFA threatened to exclude Spain from all international competitions.

The Spanish FA is a political machine. The president usually wins the election by promising funds to the regional FA's - which are funneled into generous wages for their presidents, and their own clients. Rubiales may seem crass, but he's been extremely skillful at building his network of clients. That's how he got all that people clapping at his deranged speech on Saturday. He's also been very good at leveraging the popularity of the national team (men and women) to bring even more cash in.

And right on cue, one of Rubiales' stooges has formally requested UEFA to intervene in his favor because of "government interference". Will see what they do. Note that while FIFA has began a formal investigation, UEFA - of which Rubiales was one of the VPs and was close to Ceferin - has remained mum.
