Exactly this.

Agreed definitely and by all accounts Ritchie was running drills and warm ups at the start of games so maybe a good coach not a squad player on however much a week taking up a squad place to play under an hour a season.

I know all teams carry players who don't realistically play and are squad filler but we right now need more than the 15 players we regularly can call upon on match days that was the case 3 or 4 transfer windows ago and is just as important now.

We will have to agree to disagree at this point dummett has joined Carlisle ffs model pro course he was but he took up a squad place and was offering nothing on the pitch likewise at the stage Ritchie was let go reluctantly neither was he. Howe goes on about small group and squad if you instantly have 5 or 6 players who will never realistically play it's not sustainable if you want to be a side fighting on multiple fronts.

The Gillespie lad i will never agree on 10k a week to basically never play be a cone on the practice pitch and be in media stuff is simply not good enough surely a youth keeper would be better placed for that slot.

We have a side with a mix of elite and full internationals on the books not sure what the group of canny lads can offer them especially at this stage of the build ( was essential at the take over as we needed to lean on our experienced players to help unify the team).  While older players can bring leadership we all at least agree we need to be better at moving players on I for one would like the players who don't play and aren't up to it shipped first.

So with the PSR glass ceiling you have the option of spending to replace these folk or bringing in youth players who cannot offer any experience or anything to those in the first 15/16.

Our academy and youth set up is nowhere near of the level of many Premier League clubs that we aspire to be like or better. I can agree on Gillespie, but the others absolutely served their purpose for the overall dressing room and ethics of Eddie Howe and the club as a whole.

We've been down the road of overpaid pre-madonnas before and been relegated. Thankfully Benitez (and Lascelles) made people respect the football club again, as did some of those mentioned. Keeping some of those old heads around as we transition has been imperative to ensuring the right level of respect and application is applied by those joining the club.

By improving on 3 or 4 of those you potentially lose the chance to sign a Tino a Hall or at the top end someone like a Bruno or Botman.

Including you. Pretty sure you were reminding us daily how poor the Hall and Tonali signings were

Nope. I never said we overpaid for either.

I’ve been a big Hall fan from day one and wanted him to play more last season. I questioned the logic of buying him last season if Howe wasn’t willing to play him despite an injury crisis after only a couple poor games (halves even). Turns out I was right - Hall is top tier and should’ve got more game time when Burn was getting ripped week after week at LB.

Tonali - again not a slight on the player. But I questioned  spending £50m+ on 1 player + all the other money we spent that window when we were going to need to raise 50m+ to become PSR compliant.

I think now everyone admits that was the wrong approach which is why aren’t doing that this season and Amanda and co. left. We haven’t done a 40m+ deal since.    If it wasn’t for Minteh having a breakout season we would’ve had to sell a purple on the cheap. We overspent they window for sure and  had no good plan to get out of it.

You wanted Hall to play in midfield though.

Pretty sure you did like

In relation to FFP overspend which is true. Which is why we haven’t done similar again.  A Range Rover is too much money on a £50k salary. That doesn’t mean the range isn’t worth the money but you shouldn’t spend it.

Ahh, you wanted him in for Burn last season, but now he's come in at left back you want to see him in midfield. Got it.
