That’ll be Curtis Jones they’re talking about.

I’d stop watching.

Clearly Liverpool want their money back

We've got an awful habit as a fanbase of wanting to sell our best players at any point they're having a bad patch.

The whole team is playing shit, he's absolute mustard and the type of player we need to keep about long term if we ever want to amount to anything more.

Every player has good and bad spells, it's football.

Spot on. People spoke of him as arguably one of the best midfielders in Europe not so long ago now apparently he can’t pass.

I think he’s partly been the victim of Eddie’s new ‘system’ and also the complete lack of movement up front

Could have had Kenneth Taylor in as a ready made replacement but, shockingly PIF, took too long.

Now that's a proper tacklin' name. John McTackle, Craig Strength, Chudley O'Studs, that's what we need

Its the higher wages he wants and until we can offer what the top clubs can, this will probably happen once every summer.

It all boils down to increasing our revenue. PIF have done a decent job with that since taking over, from £140m to £400m+ (estimated to be this year's turnover) so they've tripled it.

Until we add another couple of hundred million a year, we can't pay the top wages. Its part of the growth. It takes time with all the rules in place now.

His passing has never been great tbh. Still a brilliant player though.

Wouldn't put it past him to try an Isak. This is all on Tonali's instruction to get him away this summer.

I must disagree. I think it was one of his strong points

If he wants anyway come the summer, identify a replacement between now and June, get the best possible price for him and move on. However that’s what we’ve been quite poor at in recent windows, the club have to start working multiple windows ahead for both incomings and outgoings. It can be argued that the Tonali replacement should already be at the club. Same with Tino.

I digress but too many players have been held onto for too long, so poor at selling. Trippier, Pope, Willock, Joelinton, Wilson, Almiron; many of those players we could’ve had alright money for at optimal times, instead they were held onto or given new contracts and we have lost some and will likely lose all for next to nowt.

Still think he's been mostly misused here like. Would've loved to see him play further forward but alas.

The guy is quality and would walk into most teams midfields in the world, he would be a huge loss.

This season is an anomaly because most of the team is playing shite

He used to play further forward. When was the last time he was in a position to score a goal like Southampton away?

it will probably be Elliot Anderson for £80m-£100m. I won’t mind it but the forum might actually explode

I will. He’d end up costing more than the fee we’d get for Tonali, plus I think we need totally different profiles of midfielders anyway to Anderson.

The squad is considerably more than one or two players away from competing at the top level and our commercial + matchday + broadcast revenue isn't enough to fund the surgery required so our only option is to sell someone we'd rather keep for a substantial fee and invest that in three or four new players.

Before last summer if you'd said we'd lose Isak and Tonali and have that £200-250m to spend I'd have backed us to pick up six or seven good players and maybe even leave the overall squad in a better position to compete on multiple fronts. Then summer 2025 happened...

Does his daft cunt agent not realise that speaking to the media about this is optional and he can say fuck all about it if he wishes? Coming out with this crap right now is so fucking stupid.

I mean, “Newcastle are having a hard time of letting go”, would be cause for pessimism, surely?

Fuck me. I hope we’re seriously not considering replacing him with Anderson or Curtis fucking Jones.

He’ll go. The noise started at a similar time with Isak IIRC, I thought it was Liverpool just trying to unsettle him ahead of the final, but clearly not.

His replacement will be a huge factor as to how we perform next season. Hopefully we get it right.
