toontownman Posted Saturday at 19:14 Share Posted Saturday at 19:14 Fully expect him to shine for spurs.. would be just our luck lol. That said he also seems to be one to be a confidence player and not a leader. He really isn't a huge gut punch of a loss for us IF A) we get a reasonable fee 90m plus. B) We reinvest well. There are plenty of players we can buy for well under 50m that can contribute more than he did last year. Sad because on his day he looks a world beater. That was only 6 days in the past year though, at best.
captainhaircut Posted Saturday at 19:16 Share Posted Saturday at 19:16 Based on last seasons form, I’m not sure Tonali would be in our best 11 if everyone was fit. something like 90m with Trafford on loan with an obligation would be unreal business. It's on the club to bring in quality replacements. I just wish we'd do that before selling. Absolutely this. We won’t have as many games next season too so it can be a rebuild year with fewer dudes in the squad. A couple of shrewd signings and we’re back in it and the feel good factor comes back fast. We also do pay good fees bar who, Trafford? Don't go down the TCD route of getting angry over the wrong info about Munoz. The dirty Chelsea route is fucking vile and I'd rather the club fold than turn in to that abomination of a sporting institution. And we've kept with a manager who had a bad season but also won our first cup in decades, qualified for the CL twice in 3 seasons and has done so well coaching and managing our players were getting 100m bids for them and potentially silly profits. Also the club who apparently need to be "better sellers" to get as much as we can when the times are right to do so. But not now? Our strip sponsor is paying us more than our previous and commercial revenue has grown a shit load. Hired DoFs with great CVs (whether they worked or not). Etc etc etc. You'll not hear me say many good things about PIF, but to say this club has no ambition is beyond silly. You're breaking your own rule, you're still in this football section which has been filled with ludicrous bile for fucking ages, more and more, every single day. Don't get caught up in it. You've supported this club for long enough to understand.
nufc4eva Posted Saturday at 19:17 Share Posted Saturday at 19:17 He would be better holding out for Arsenal or City. Massive pressure on the club to show we aren't back where we started if he goes as well. Think half of it is just those shitty tactics, way we played like complete losers last season and not prioritising being a good premier League team as players more likely to stay if we focus on getting into Europe every season. Won't be sad if the club sort it out and Eddie learns from it

Tonali looking elsewhere, Tino and Hall all rumoured to be either fucked off or looking elsewhere too and none of that is good. Defy anyone to not be a bit twitchy if a lot of your best players want to all leave at the same time. There's clearly something going on. And all of that is before you get into the fact that the recruitment team trying to replace them are seemingly incompetent and struggle massively to tie deals up. This whole thing is starting to stink, it's going rotten

Jaqen Posted Saturday at 19:18 Share Posted Saturday at 19:18 I like Tonali as a player but he's taken the piss to be fair. Talked about wanting to repay the loyalty we showed him when he sat out a year etc. Played one full season and had his agent hitting up Arsenal a few months into his second season. After that move never happened it's basically been a load of terrible performances whilst trying to get a move to any of the cartel clubs. Sacked off the derby to go get beat of Bosnia for Italy as well. The key is obviously the replacement but in isolation we'll be selling an uninterested and underperforming player for a massively inflated fee which is a no brainer. TheInfiniteOdyssey Posted Saturday at 19:18 Share Posted Saturday at 19:18 If I’m unfollowing Tonali’s wife on Instagram, it has to be £100m or thereabouts.
Geordie Magpie Posted Saturday at 19:18 Share Posted Saturday at 19:18 We were always gonna lose big players this window, Gordon has gone, Tonali looks nailed to go and I wouldn't be surprised to see one more leave. Players going and getting good fees isn't the worrying issue, it's us getting replacements in and quickly that's the concern
gbandit Posted Saturday at 19:18 Share Posted Saturday at 19:18 I am concerned that we haven’t learnt from last summer’s window. Selling players or our players making endless noises about wanting to leave before we do any of our own business in those positions is a major failing and it is a concern we don’t appear to be learning

Agree, but after a poor season, selling Gordon and Tonali whilst failing to bring anyone in beforehand is a poor look. Obviously won’t matter if we end up with a stronger squad before the end of the window. However that’s not a guarantee given how we struggle to sign players. OoOGazOoO Posted Saturday at 19:19 Share Posted Saturday at 19:19 It does make me nervous, very nervous. Combination of last summer, Munoz being interested then dropping us like a stone, then other clubs knowing we have got 2 handsome fees for Tonali and Gordon in the bank, just makes me very nervous that we are back to Wissa examples, need players, have money, so can be fleeced. All this and a real lack of confidence in our recruitment in general.

Not spray it all over. 90m for someone who doesn’t score or create, isn’t strong in the air, can’t pass between the lines and is really undisciplined in his positioning is crazy. Stuy_O Posted Saturday at 19:22 Share Posted Saturday at 19:22 The players aren’t daft. They know the rules prevent us from challenging and they’ll also realise that we don’t seem to doing much to fight it. What was promised in the brochure isn’t remotely close to the reality. they can’t get the wages the cartel offer they won’t challenge for titles the cartel challenge for

We all knew 1 or 2 big sales were coming to fund a rebuild. We got good money for Gordon who’s been shite for ages and we appear to be getting very, very good money for Tonali. It’s nowhere near bed wetting time. If another big player goes e.g. Hall then fair enough. So far it’s what we expected, and what the club told us needed to happen. Improvement isn’t going to be linear.
JoeyBartoon Posted Saturday at 19:24 Share Posted Saturday at 19:24 Selling players for £100m is all well and good, but I wouldn’t trust this lot to order a takeaway, let alone spend the money on the right signings.
timeEd32 Posted Saturday at 19:24 Share Posted Saturday at 19:24 He hasn’t wanted to be here since at least December, which means he shouldn’t be here in August. Tonali was never going to be a Newcastle lifer. The only thing that could annoy me about this is a fee that feels too low.
