Gallowgate Toon
Sorry, what is Barnes' one trick? He's bagged loads of assists as well as goals Think we've got some FBRef merchants. https://twitter.com/nufcsanjay/status/1677392398614142979?t=Uy25iustKchbXmsloGjf2w&s=

Was more in reference to people saying Barnes is a clear step up to Maxi when he's not. But yes, fitness will always be his major flaw but that's not a reflection on the quality he has as a player. BonesJones
It's irrelevant if Maxi is the better player or not, if someone puts the ball in the back of the net that often from out wide (In that Leicester team aswell), then they start over him.

Still, just can't see a player who bags all types of goals and assists is one trick. Sure, he probs cuts inside a lot, but so does Maxi.
Toon88
Exactly. As soon as Barnes bangs a few goals, which he will, then these people defending ASM will quickly forget him. It’s how football works. Fickle. Loved ASM for us, but 12 goals in 112 games for his position is an awful return, hence why the club are upgrading on him.
STM
Maxi is a much more talented player than Barnes, in the traditional sense. His quickness of feet is only bettered by players like Salah. Sadly, football is played on a pitch and not in a circus. You wouldn't argue that ASM is better than say Martinelli? But there are things Maxi can do that Martinelli couldn't. It's about the whole package. Barnes represents a much better package than ASM. He's more productive, more reliable, more malleable. He's very much an Eddie Howe player. I don't want it to turn too much into a maxi bashing session because we all have a soft spot for him but the writing is on the wall IMO.
The Prophet
ASM and Barnes are completely different players like, almost polar opposite. ASM is tricky, skillful and always wants to beat his man. Barnes is no frills, direct and always looks to get a shot off.
khay
We can keep both and mix it up. We have plenty of games. We need a squad. If Barnes can get us 10 plus goals next season we are flying again.
Matt1892
The only wide players from the top six sides with more goals than him last season are Salah, Rashford, Martinelli and Saka. If he gets in to double figures with us next season and we finish top six he will be raved about.

The irony of this post being Maxi's single handedly saved us from relegation twice and this has been forgotten after one sketchy season.

I think Maxi is a far more talented player who offers more creatively and unsettling teams defensively. I don't mind Barnes as a player but he's the ultimate one trick pony. And could it not be argued that in about 85% of his games for us, ASM has been an ineffectual Show Pony?

Gawalls
If Howe chooses to keep ASM then I’m happy same as if Howe chooses Barnes then I’m also happy. He’s earned our trust as far as I’m concerned.

Honestly what were you watching? Maxi setting up Joelinton etc to fuck it up isn’t being a ‘show pony’ we can absolutely say injuries have hindered him and we can absolutely say howe has tried to get him to adapt which has made him far less direct but to call him a show pony is ridiculous
Shak
We could sign Barnes and Diaby and play Isak as a false nine.
Kid Icarus
ASM is in literally the top 1-10% of players in Europe's top leagues for assists, expected assists, carries, succesful take ons and runs and passes into the penalty area, shot and goal creating actions per 90, and all despite having an injury ravaged season. No end product is the opposite of his problem, it's a strength. Ironically, I think his biggest problem last season is not being greedy enough. He's hardly taken any shots himself.
