Completely agree. Football changes Fast and guaranteed that either the club or player will get fucked off with something during these mammoth contracts causing problems and then a possible domino effect. 

Chelsea are going to find it so so difficult to get rid of a player who's on a huge contract, and if they can't, there's nothing they can do. 

 

It's like our problems with Hayden, Fraser etc just on a much, much bigger scale

In someways it’s smart. Transfer fees seem to be inflating at ridiculous rates (mainly due to Chelsea). They are locking in all their business for the next 5-8 years before that inflation gets worse. The risk is that if the players fail, they won’t be able to get rid and also they will have minimal FFP space for the next 5-8 years to reinvest further into the squad. They will have to sell more young players to stay afloat.

No football club can plan for a five / right year period.

 

Players can be one season wonders, pick up long term injuries or sit on their long term contacts and not be arsed.

 

Unless they can be moved on, it will also stop them buying and new players two / three years down the line.

I believe Lewis Hall is a midfielder that's moved backwards. If he's content being seen exclusively as a defender I'd rather pursue him.
