If we didn't have Tonali or Joelinton, I reckon we'd have been in for Gallagher. Don't think he'd go anywhere he's not first choice.

I’m sure Gallagher doesn’t look at either Joelinton or Tonali and think to himself that he has no chance of getting in the team in front of them.

Tonali is an unknown quantity at this point, Gallagher isn’t. Just to make the point.. but I know what you’re saying.

I’ll never understand the under rating of Gallagher on here (not saying you do), he is a quality and very intelligent midfielder. He’d be incredible in our press.

Gallagher would only join if one of Bruno, Tonali or Joelinton left imo.

Agreed.

Atletico were ready to pay him around £200,000 a week for goodness sake.

A bunch of fans like to act like the guy is a big joke, just because he can look a bit awkward at times, but he really isn't.

That would change if Longstaff was sold though. Not that I think we will sell him, just that Gallagher would be the ideal replacement if we did.

I'm not a PSR boffin, but would selling Longstaff for 10mill give us enough money to buy Gallagher for 40m?

Transfer fee plus contract, you’re looking at £90m+ for Gallagher. Meanwhile Isak’s agent will be telling him how much less he’s getting paid.

It is a squad player role.

He will not join to play that role. The salary he would demand wouldn't even allow it to make sense.

35 games a season isn't a "squad" player

We’re supposedly muscling in on Gallagher’s move to Atlético, which has seemingly run into trouble regarding some image-rights clause. We’ll see.

Best mates with Guehi, according to Steve Parish. I fully support our transformation into the super happy friends club.

I've grown to 'get' Gallagher like. Longstaff under Howe has shown me that you can have a pretty poor season but still bag yourself 8 goals in that role. So in that respect I get Howe's fetish for seemingly underwhelming players like Gallagher and McTominay.

Was expecting big things from Mitchell when he came in with his contacts.

Maybe you'll find the big things (along side with your right boot) to be stuck up your ass

He would demand a salary in line with other first teamers to join.

He would not be starting games.

He would therefore not agree to join if he is not starting games.

It would be a squad player role to him, whether you like it or not.

One of the first things that drew my attention to Lord Edward Howe was that he was doing well playing nice football in the premier league with Bournemouth, and Dan Gosling was a mainstay in his midfield. It blew my mind something so ordinary as Gosling could work in a decent team. Maybe Eddie just loves a functional midfielder!

The only midfielder that we have that Gallagher wouldn't get a start ahead of is Bruno.

But I doubt we'd go for him for the reasons stated by others (salary)

I’m sorry but Tonali, JL and healthy willock are better than Gallagher. I’d have Longstaff and Miley over him too.

Willock is debatable as they are so different but IMO he would be clearly ahead of Longstaff and Miley. I would never have him ahead of Tonali or Joelinton though. Tonali's profile seems to have taken a massive hit, he was the captain of AC Milan and Italy international before the ban.

I think that's a bit harsh. Im not advocating us buying Gallagher as I dont think we need him, but he's shown some real quality. He's had his dips and poor performances but I think a happy, confident, well coached Gallagher would be a very good player. He played really well for Poch the second half of last season. Probably finished it as their 2nd best player.

And if this was 2004 not 2024 then being AC Milan captain and an Italian international would be seriously impressive.  It doesn't hold the same stock atm.

Well I like Gallagher more than most here but at the same time he was a bit part player in the worst Chelsea team in decades with 35 apps and only 1616 minutes.

I think he's a better footballer than Joelinton - and Tonali, unfortunately, remains an open question in terms of the PL

We should stay away from Chelsea players. Everyone should.

You can't allow their model to succeed, which it will if people keep buying their castoffs for more than they paid for them.
