Arda Guler for me

These are the players we need, imo. I think we lack dribbling ability in the team, someone the opposition maybe have to double up on. If we can add dribbling ability plus a bit of guile we’re on to a winner, especially if they fit in to our high intensity style.

All very intelligent players as well.

Who are the star upcoming players from the championship at the moment? It would be good to pick up a Wharton, Eze type…

Don't think there's many stand out players there at the moment - been the poorest league I've seen for a while

Hackney always looks decent when I watch Boro, and Rudoni at Coventry who we were linked to already looks quality. Maybe both a bit too old to fit the "upcoming" criterion but would be good buys if the price is right

Yes agreed.

You don't want to change too much, and potentially lose the culture but the squad refresh is long overdue.

Dubravka, Ruddy, Oddy can go (keep Pope)
Trippier may go, perhaps Lascelles will too. Targett too.
Willock and Longstaff can go, for sure.
One of Gordon or Barnes can go.
Wilson can go.

That's 10 players from the first team squad. Probably too many to change in one summer, especially when more depth is required.

1 of Joan Garcia/Trafford + 1 of Krul/Woodman/Forster is potentially the GK situation.

Who knows the other replacements.
We do need world class talent at RCB and RW so we at least have a very strong first choice XI.

GK: Dubravka and Vlachodimos out. Keep Ruddy for target practice.

Defence: Keep Trippier (need a squad and he’s still decent, release Lascelles, sell Targett.

Midfield: Sell Willock and Longstaff so as not to lose him on a free. Keep Barnes and Gordon unless finances force a sale, if so sell Gordon as we have a replacement already.

Striker: Release Wilson.

It certainly sounds like we're gonna be aggressive and go for it, which is fantastic. As others have said, hope we're in the same mindset with outgoings. Shifting deadwood and those who we've outgrown as fast as possible. Could lose about 8 keepers as well

We need players that can change direction at speed and technical ability, showed up badly with Murphy, Gordon and Barnes today. They don't cause enough havoc and also movement is shit, a player that seeks out the space and then has the skill to use it would be good. Today and in recent games there's not enough up there

Lascelles hasn’t played for a year and just signed a one year extension. He’s going nowhere

Ok, missed that.

Nah, we shouldn't offload Gordon or Barnes imo. Our left wing's sorted for next season with them two. Gordon'll be back to his best, I reckon.

Last time we were in the Champions League, we spent around £40m on Livramento, £40m on Barnes, and £60m on Tonali – about £150m in total. I'd guess we've got something similar this time. I'd flog Longstaff for a tidy profit too.

We need a right winger, so Murphy's on the bench, a right centre-back, meaning Schar's on the bench, and a new keeper.

Goalkeeper

Livramento

New RCB

Botman

Hall

Big Joe

Tonali

Bruno

New RW

Isak

Gordon.

That's a top XI, if we get our signings right.

Barnes

Murphy

Burn

Schar

Lascelles

Pope

Miley

New CM

New striker

Osula

Willock

Krafth

We add a two cheap pick ups.

So thats like 5/6 signings.

But we need to go big on a RW and RCB.

Can we get one of our resident number crunchers like @timeEd32 or @r0cafella in here to tell us what they think we’re able to spend in theory this summer? And maybe some other scenarios like “if we sell Longstaff for £10 million and Willock for £20 million where would we be at”

Did a bit of playing with the numbers recently and I think it’s likely £90m-£110m budget plus whatever headroom you can create from sales. The range is effectively because (a) nobody knows where the live commercials are exactly and (b) depends on how we choose to spend it as wages may eat some of your headroom (Kelly sale creates a lot but then you assume a new signing on the headroom may end up being paid significantly more than him).

Gordon is not going anywhere, neither is Barnes. We cant lose either and who would buy Gordon after the season he had? Longstaff and Willock might be both out, but we need to replace them.

Everyone whose contract expires can bugger off.

Honestly think Mbeumo should be a priority signing. He fits perfectly.

I also think he's one of the few players that I think we should over pay for.

He basically covers RW and CF, when Isak needs a rest, in one player.

If we were to get him early, we could be quite flexible for the rest of the window.

Chelsea and Arsenal would buy Gordon given the chance and think the club would be open to trading Barnes if a Villa, West Ham, or Everton offered us our money back on him.

Certainly couldn’t sell both but Barnes would be the one I’d consider trading if the right offer comes in.

I actually agree. I think if there's a PSR advantage to selling one of Gordon/Barnes, I think we might do it but only if we have a clear idea of who we'd like to recruit as a replacement.

You can have one Tonali / Isak level signing out of the blue this summer. Who would you want?

No chance and he'd cost too much probably but Wirtz, or a similar player to go along with CB, RW. I'd like to see a real lock-picker type player (I know we don't play with a 10 but an evolution of style is possible) to break down these low-block mid-table sides we've struggled against the most this season and to give us more class centrally for CL games. We can dream right?

If Isak needs a rest, weakening our right forward position to accommodate that doesn't make that much more sense imo.
