NUFC Transfer Rumours

Is Camara not a more defensive minded midfielder?

Exactly my point, I wouldn't want Miley and Joelinton doing that role.

And based on what I saw this season, we sorely need one.

If we're moving more to 4231 then Ramsey might be considered more an option across the forward 3. And Willock should be move on ideally.

This is another thing yeah, Ramsey position in the squad should be vastly different to Camara or any in the "2" for the most part so it doesn't really matter.

Ideally I would say regardless of what happens with Tonali we need one more CM and 2 versatile attackers. (one to replace Gordon)

We can then talk goalkeepers, fullbacks etc.

Is Lamine Camara the sort of signing you'd get excited over like we did when we bagged Tonali?

I would say he lacks Tonali's reputation, but from everything I've seen (highlights + data) he looks to be a ball winning machine.

Fair do. Not sure how I'd feel about two relatively unproven players replacing Gordon & Barnes at once. Has shades of the Wijnaldum/Mitrovic/Mbemba/Thauvin window. Would keep Barnes and sign one of those two's profile to compete with him.

That was actually a great window. It was McClaren that was the problem

Can't say I'm a fan of the "stepping stone" narrative that's being peddled by the usual club mouthpieces.

I really don't think this is a big deal. And if we're putting it out there it's plausible that our reputation took a hit in this regard (maybe due to Isak or something else) and we might think it's impacting our recruitment.

We have a big problem for youngsters because of the rules etc

Either you’re a Brighton or Bournemouth and you’re actively clear in your pitch, you’ll be first choice and be sold within 2-3 seasons if you do well

or you’re an elite club and you go for the top echelon of elite talents eg Real Madrid getting Arda Guler or Chelsea signing Estevao etc

We are in that messy middle which aren’t either so we end up with sloppy seconds or established PL players

Last summer proved we are not elite so we need to go the rich mans Brighton approach

We needed some experience. Coloccini was pretty much finished by this stage, Taylor & Williamson shite, Cisse finished, Colback & Anita some of the other senior players were shite.

The money we spent on Shelvey in January we should have moved heaven and earth to bring Cabaye back who had a great few years at Palace. He'd have probably come too. Him added to that lot and we'd have been nowhere near relegation.

I think we need more attacking output from CM. All of those players is not enough

Unnecessary.

It’s getting a bit tiring now tbh. An underwhelming summer and suddenly his entire transfer record is being written off as if it never happened.

Howe’s already been involved in bringing in players who would comfortably be in the conversation for an all-time NUFC XI; Trippier, Bruno and Burn among them, alongside strong signings like Livramento, Hall and Tonali etc. Even Thiaw, from what’s being labelled a “disastrous Howe-led summer,” looks like a solid addition and was reportedly a player he’s wanted for some time.

Not saying there isn’t room for improvement but at some point it’s worth stepping back and recognizing the scale of what he’s actually built here, rather than dismissing it on the back of one difficult window.

Because we played so little of that 4-2-3-1 it's difficult to even know who fits where, and so I hope the manager and his team are clear on it.

The two times we played this setup at the end of the season, we started one game with Joelinton on the left and the other with Ramsey on the left.

Is Howe seeing those two as wide men in that setup? Or will they be used as double pivot options going forward?

Recruitment will be shaped by however that question is answered you'd think.

I’ve never been a Howe outer, but absolutely nobody can convince me that last summer window wasn’t much much more “Howe” than the others. I can definitely buy Trippier, Targett and Burn in the beginning. That’s not to say that he hasn’t been involved in decisions regarding the other players.

Don't see a reason why this should be that sensitive

It’s not even that, it’s just the “looks a decent move, summer might be good, means Howe is getting sidelined” angle. It’s juvenile and purposefully stupid.

Howe had to take a lot of responsibility in the past because there was nobody else in a position to take any.

I'm of the believe if the base behind them is more solid and they have less defensive responsibilities it will look better.

Especially if the 4231 switch is made, I agree the attacking output isn't good enough but neither is the defensive side of it either. The balance is awful regardless how you slice it.

He’s an all round midfield - crucially, he can pass a ball - he’s not a Chiek Tiote style player - more of a technical footballer, gets the ball, passes it forward - can take set pieces also

Would be an excellent signing imo

We can have whatever plan we want with regards to formation but if we dont get the players, its a rather pointless discussion.

Ive heard a few saying "we cant play that 433" and that we need a big change but you don't always have to change formation, you can change profile of players.

Instead of having 3 number 8s, like we have tended to do, we could have an 8 alongside a proper deep lying number 6 and another number 8 who plays more as a 10, if that makes sense. Im not wholly against a 4231 either, just making the point.

Well yeah, we're all just making assumptions at this point.

The signings will dictate what direction we will go in with regards to formations, I'm sure the Wilson, Howe etc know but it won't become clear until people walk through the door.

Barnes has two years left on his contract which is the only reason I’d sell now. We’re in a place where we have to risks. We have a lot to do, and not a huge amount of funds.

I know nothing about these foreigners, so I'm 100% in the hands of the experts on here to tell me if they are any good
