I’m pleasantly surprised by the profiles we’re signing or being linked with so far this summer.

 

Young, technical players from the continent with scope to develop is much closer to what I’d hoped we’d be looking at.

 

I’d half convinced myself we’d spend the summer chasing Curtis Jones. So far, the names being mentioned suggest there might actually be some different thinking going on behind the scene

I’d say just about yeah. He’s not played a ridiculous number of minutes for his age so he’s probably got five years of the best football ahead of him right now. Five years either for us or another club or a few years and then still some resale value while he’s at his peak. I’m not desperate for us to sign him but he’s a very good player at the very beginning of his best years

Fair enough, for me a young player is probably below 21. Jokes is very much coming into his peak, wouldn't expect his game to change/improve much at this stage. 

 

Decent player though but not worth it for us imo in terms of fee/wages. It's very much him or Ramsey not sure we need both.

He's very good but he's just more of what we already have. I'd rather we signed a dedicated DM and/or a #10 to give us some options

You’re right, but he’d not be worth the money being quoted in my opinion.

 

Anyway, I actually meant Andy Robertson, who we were being linked with earlier this year. 😄 I wrote Curtis Jones by mistake.

 

That sort of signing was exactly what I was worried about: another Premier League-proven player not good enough.

 

The profiles being linked now look considerably more encouraging.

Last summer's transfer window has absolutely ruined us. The worst of it is, we'll probably still have to figure out a way to use Wissa and Elanga in our forward line up somehow. I'm being kind by leaving Woltemade out here as well, still not convinced he will come good in the EPL either. Not unless Howe has a big change in how we play in mind.

Going by cold hard numbers and statistics Wissa and Elanga should have been perfect. We overpaid, and their failure to deliver their capability has cost us. That is before diving into the "Howe tactic/flexibility" Objectively we took a chance on two players who had demonstrated their ability and capability. Its just an utter s*****r that they chose to forget it all when they got here

Not true in my case. I think he’s a well balanced player and the Liverpool fans I know really like him.

Since he's a youth product they're probably biased. We already have Aaron Ramsey who is a balanced midfielder, I can't see what he'd offer us

Imagine the improvements he'd make with a full season of being used consistently. Not impossible that the season after next, he has the number 9.
