Doubt Murphy will go. Having reliable versatile players who are willing to, in the main, be on the bench is really important. Add to this Murphy’s positive role in the squad and he’s the next Matt R.

I like him a lot myself but when needs must.

The Botman news has to fundamentally change our summer plans unless we already planned to invest in one. Or.... Burn is a CB again?

I’m convinced we would have been in the market for a CB regardless of Botmans injury

not for £15m, he has his limitations and may not be good enough for where we want to end up, but £15m doesn’t buy you a surplus to requirements full back these days never mind a centre mid who has been a starter in an upwardly mobile team. He's not yet hit his peak years age wise either.

lots of people want rid seemingly, but we have to become better sellers, not just get rid for any price sellers.

Tosin at Fulham is on a free this summer too? Can't say I know much of him but him and Kelly wouldn't be a bad idea I guess if we are hamstrung with FFP

I have been keen on Tosin for a while. But if Spurs (maybe not now after Dragusin, but Van de Ven is never fit) and Liverpool are genuinely interested. Then we can forget that one.

Opposite side though surely?

Colwill should be the CB we go all out for, especially if Chelsea need to sell a HG. Big potential, also capable playing LB if needed when we have full availability.

maybe this will fast track Alex Murphy's development - have high hopes for him

Unlikely, as Howe appears to view youngsters as a last rest.

More likely we will see Dummett.

Thought he looked v promising in pre-season, but hasn’t had a look in

With Tonali coming back in the summer at this point I’d blow the whole budget on LB, CB and right forward.

Without Botman think the whole team will be built on quick sand next season without serious investment in the back line.

So how I see it

in:

2x CB's. A one of them left footer

DM. To replace Bruno? Or to free him higher? I doubt this will happen though...

RW. Left footed right winger, who likes to drift inside to space in front of defence and leave space for Tino/Tripps to run

Striker: Younger option behind Isak-Wilson and who can also cover right wing.

I would say CBs and RW are a must.

Out:

Almiron (I think this is certain)

Dummett (or Targett?)

Ritchie

Karius/Gillespie/Dubravka (2 of these?)

Hopefully Fraser, Hendrick (out of contract anyway), Hayden and Lewis.
