Saw some French media claiming Jean-Clair Todibo has been identified as our main CB target. Disasi no longer of interest. OGCN value @€40m

Think we’ll do it at that price. Same as Botman, same as Badiashille.

Why should I consider Dummett playing for Newcastle when Howe doesn’t?

He’s not first team or close but if we have an injury crisis he’ll be used. No one is saying Dummett will be likely to get much minutes but if needs must howe will use him. He got a contract and he’s taking up a squad space. Same with Ritchie, same with Gillespie etc

Is this not for home grown quota mainly, and cheer leading with a future roll within the cloob?

More than likely and more than likely he won’t be needed as Burn is CH and one will be signed but if there is an unlikely injury/suspension crisis and we have 4 centre halves out then Howe will use him and that’s the point of the discussion we might not have the necessary quality in back up but the players are there

Anderson got nearly 500 minutes last season like, which isn't inconsequential and Howe constantly bigs him up, he's clearly trusted like.

You also need to trust youth, as a fanbase we've always moaned about our youth setup, and we finally have a couple of players that could be decent at Premier League level, and people want to make it so they never get any game time.

I think both Howe and Ashworth are proponents of giving youth players opportunities. In theory (though teams like Chelsea seem to get around this somehow) you don’t get potentially world-class youth prospects without providing evidence of a pathway into the first team. Also helps with “farming” young players to sell off for FFP purposes.

500 minutes is inconsequential.  It’s not enough for his development. It’s the equivalent of 5.5 full games.

If Howe was willing to give him solid minutes I would be delighted. But he’s not.

You don’t develop youth by having them sit on the bench for seasons on end. They either get minutes at the club like Garnacho or you loan them out to get minutes elsewhere like Amad Diallo.

We might as well sack the academy off now if we are never going to have the faith in youngsters to give them any game time.

We’re building a squad to not only compete on 4 fronts

but sell on too. It’ll all come together in time, including academy players.

The academy has been neglected for years. Due to previous owners. So there won’t be a huge pool of talent there at the minute.

give it a few years and that should change.

Wasn’t the reason he wasn’t used much because we didn’t need him to be because we had enough in midfield and now we’ve added Tonali so kinda goes against your theory we don’t have enough in midfield.

I think the last year or so is the first time I d heard of this cheerleader role like.

If he was on a nominal wage and doing what Huddlestone and Spearing are then great, but he's likely taking up one of the 25 squad places.

That’s your understanding.

I think Howe simply didn’t think he had a choice but to run our lads into the ground. He said himself Joelinton and Bruno played through injury and knocks often.  If Howe thought Anderson was ready, he would get proper minutes.  Even when he didn’t start, Howe would give ASM solid minutes.  And the other starter was a bad performance away from ASM coming in. That wasn’t the case in midfield.

Like Curtis Jones actually gets minutes for Liverpool. He’s a proper member of the squad.

in Curtis Jones first season as a Premier league player for Liverpool in 19/20 he had 6 appearances mostly coming off the bench. Last season was Anderson’s first PL season.

It was his first season stepping up from league 2 to the Premier league. Not sure what you expect from a manager that doesn’t rush players in

We are still clearly short in midfield. If Bruno has a season ending injury we are in crisis even now. Things are better with Tonoli of course but that would still have a massive impact on us, we couldn't brush that aside and say we are going to compete on all fronts for rest of season

Aye at the age of 18. The next season at the age of 19, for a team challenging for the title he got almost 2,000 minutes. The equivalent of 21 full games. With over half of those coming in the premier league.

From the age of 19, when fit, Jones has been a proper member of that squad. Relied on to perform.

Players develop a different points like, Anderson is still only 20, there is literally 0 reason why he couldn't get them minutes like Jones did this next season.

To say he wasn't a member of the squad last season is just silly to be honest.

So? Anderson’s development is slower than Jones that’s all you are telling me there. There wasn’t a chance Howe was gonna throw him in too much in his first season stepping up from league 2. The fact he even kept him around rather than loaning him out to a slightly lower level should indicate he’s very much part of Howe’s plans
