NUFC Transfer Rumours

Recommended Posts

It’s probably not feasible from a financial POV given our need to spend on GK and CB, but I’d love to see us go out and sign Mbeumo AND Dibling. Two quality RW options but critically both of them also have versatility.

Mbeumo would be first choice RW but also fills the role of backup CF when Isak needs a rest, with Dibling then coming in on the right.

Dibling would also be an option for the LCM role when we need something a bit different from what Joelinton gives us.

Possibly a bit harsh on Murphy, is the only thing.

Was thinking about this, would appear very doable if we signed Mbeumo as our RW option.

Base setup would obviously be Mbeumo right, Gordon left and Isak CF.

However, would be a very easy for us to have Isak go left, Gordon right and Mbeumo CF if we’re struggling and wanted to throw something different at our opponent during the game.

Your a canny poster so no disrespect intended but you did see Gordon on the right this season right?

It's just not an option.

Murphy is streets ahead of Dibling at present. I don't think we need a GK either. Not next season anyway.

Fair enough, though I personally suspect the biggest issue with Gordon playing on the right is that he doesn’t want to.

But the broader point was about having a front three that can interchange positions like the PSG front three do, to throw something different at teams. Certainly wasn’t advocating Gordon on the right full time.

Aye at his age Dibling would have to earn his time on the pitch so I do think Murphy would be ahead of him in the pecking order at RW initially. Think Dibling has a lot of potential though and would be a quality addition to the squad.

Disagree on the GK, think a top quality GK who is comfortable with the ball at his feet would add a lot to us. However, if the right option isn’t attainable I can see the logic in waiting another year rather than bringing in a second rate option.

just playing, but for for 2 quality RW's you could always go:
Sane £0 (£225k p/w wages? but still much cheaper than Mbeumo overall), Dibling £50m, Wissa £30m (ST/LW), sell barnes £40m.   For a net spend of £40m.  Plenty of cover for the 3 attacking positions and still plenty left for other positions.

TBH, too many options out there to get hung up on specific players. Comfortable the club will get it right whatever they do.
As long as we get a quality CB, RW and cover ST I’ll be happy. Anything else a bonus.

Could I interest you in a Chris Waugh article linking us to DCL and Anthony Elanga?

I’m going to take you back, to a time far, far away, when Newcastle qualified for the champions league having won a trophy.

The problem over the past couple of seasons hasn't been the starting XI, it's the drop-off from the first 12-13 players and the rest of the squad.

That's the reason I've never been 100% on Mbeumo at £50-60m. Does he improve our XI? Yes, considerably. But when we've got a CL game on the Wednesday and a big PL game on the Saturday I'd rather have the option of a new RW and a striker, even if that means going down our list of targets a bit.

The Villa game this season stands out. I still maintain our XI that day was better than theirs but whereas they could make four or five changes from their midweek team we had to send out the same players for their third game in a week.

Think its going to be hard to find a decent backup to Isak. Do we even want someone that is happy to just be a pure backup? That almost certainly knows that he will never be the first choice as long as Isak is here?

Thats one of the reasons why I find Mbeumo such a perfect fit. He has also shown that he can handle a heavy workload. Played almost every minute for Brentford this season.

There never seems to be many complaints from other clubs at the way Chelsea behave. They got all frantic about our takeover, but haven’t seem to have said anything about all these ‘loopholes’ Chelsea exploit.

Could Chelsea have an issue with their home grown quota - at least of first team quality.  That could be why they are considering him.

They must be looking to offload a ton of players because they can’t have a separate squad for Europe next year,

Chelsea will then have Chalobah, Fofana, Collwill, Badiashile, Adarabioyo and a couple of other younger players.

Can only assume it’s their merry go round and they’ll trip and flip Adarabioyo or someone. Question to Guehi is do you wanna go somewhere for a year then be hawked round Europe, or sign up to start for years.

They aren’t going to complain about it because it suits them.

All the big clubs want PSR to create a glass ceiling that others can’t break through. One way of doing that is selling young players at a profit. It also has then additional effect of keeping the good players out of reach of the clubs they want to hold back, and only selling them to those clubs when they know they either have better players at their club, or they are no good.

All the teams will be doing the same, how often has it been said that such and such came through the academy of ‘insert top club here’ only to find out that they bought him a few years back from the academy of ‘insert lesser club here’ before they reach the age of when the expense to buy them hits your PSR.

If they call Chelsea out on it, they will call themselves out on it.
