Weve had more than our fair share of duds by going for the "less risky" player with "experience"....exactly how we were stuck with the likes of Smith, Geremi, Taylor, Nolan for years. Nolan was here for 2 years And was pretty good and influential for most of that time

Isak aside its been bad and bruising for the project and the ego with public rejections but ironically salvageable still with the time remaining. Issue is more will they manage to do it on balance of probability based on how its gone so far which is unlikely. Still glimmer of hope.
Optimistic Nut
We're a striker, (two if Isak goes), centre-back and a midfielder away from getting what we needed when the season ended. 4 weeks to get those 3/4 players. If we get them then it's spot on. Don't get those and it's been shit.
Menace
Is it really a dig? We're about to start the season with Osula up front, we're 2 bodies lighter in midfield. Our main striker has been spinning his head like the exorcist. We've had more rejections than a recently divorced guy, so forgive me for not seeing "light at the end of the tunnel" as some would say. If Howe manages to turn this around and gets us a top 6/top 7 finish at the end of season, we must simply create a new religion and make him our new saviour cause it'll be nothing short of a miracle. I have no idea who's to blame but this has been an absolute farce.

Probably after sufficient time has passed to make it factually true and not just wallowing in speculative pessimism. With time to spare it's absolutely possible we can make something of what has thus far been a frustrating window and come out of it with good players occupying positions of need. A "told-you-so" attitude to those who held a bit of glass half-full belief is a bit pointless, don't you think?

Optimistic Nut
Absolute minimum is striker or two and midfielder. We really really need a CB imo but appreciate we may have hamstrung ourselves there by keeping Burn, Schar, Krafth & Lascelles. Memphis
I would say that it's already a trainwreck in the sense that we still don't have a CEO or a Sporting Director/DoF at this point in the window. It's not like we had no idea Eales was going to leave, and the Mitchell exit was two months ago. We still don't have key decisionmakers on board with some absolutely vital decisions needing to be made quickly. The process is shit - hopefully we can salvage a decent outcome in spite of that. Yorkie
I'll just keep saying that all the less-coveted players we supposedly should have signed straight away (rather than chasing better players) are all still available and all theoretically easier to purchase. It's been really frustrating up to this point but it's not a catastrophe until it ends and we've got a considerably weaker squad. The facts are that we've peddled Wilson, Longstaff, and seemingly Dubravka. We've solved the problem RW position and signed someone to push Pope. All of those things are positive. What we need to do is resolve the striker situation, replace Longstaff and succession-plan at CB. It's vital that we do each of those things and thankfully there's a month to do it. There’s a happy medium - the club has made fantastic progress, had the best days of many of our time supporting the club but, outside looking in, this window has shone a light on things where it isn’t working. And working badly at that. Folk are right to ask the questions, we’ve got the chance to make a real mark but in typical NUFC fashion we’re having a good go at self sabotage. There were a few people saying that before the Isak saga, yes. But it's absurd to think that most people, including most of the "happy clappers", aren't extremely concerned with this window now. This is just as bad as those who say "bed-wetter". And everyone just seems to forget when they've been wrong, and shoves the lucky occasion when they've been right down everyone's throat while talking about their martyrdom. I 100% agree with you about one thing here. There is a happy medium.

A relegation, 1 decent season in the championship and a performance against the makems qualifies as good? Or is he one of those "good in the dressing room" ones. You know them...have lost the ability to perform where needed but can give a good half time talk...see Ritchie and Lacelles

Club's/Howe's decision to have 4 CBs in the group into their 30s and giving most of them new deals recently. At least one should have been let go to free a space up. Number wise we're fine. Quality wise, I don't think so.

Noone thinks the window has been good. What surprises me is the wrath some of our supporters are aiming at our club. You could have the best management and scouting team in the world but if you can’t offer the same transfer fees and wages as other clubs then you have no chance. Isn’t that obvious? I’m convinced there’s a ‘smoke filled room’ agenda to hamper our window. Masters and co introduced the ‘stop Newcastle’ rules and there were whispers about other PL clubs not doing business with us when we were taken over. It’s not a big leap to have suspicions.
