NUFC Transfer Rumours

I only want us to target players who are desperate to come here. Players like Botman was when he was following our players’ Instagram accounts from his old club. Players for whom we’re a step up, like Bruno who got dolled up in suit and make-up he was so happy to sign for us.

Targetting Mbuemo, Pedro, Ekitike etc was a mistake.

Targeting better players is a mistake?

I think he means targeting players who don’t want to come here is a mistake.

the truth is none of us have a clue what the truth is and all of our opinions are based on gossip lying newspapers, ITKs who say anything for headlines and Chinese whispers.

who knows the truth, but the perception was those players named above had no intention of coming here and we wasted time chasing them.

if someone doesn’t bite our hand off at a call from our recruitment team. Move on there and then.

but as I say none of us have a clue on what really happened

I think we have to be realistic in that good players are not going to exclusively say they want to join us and no one else.

Most players will have plenty of other suitors and it's up to our staff to persuade them that we're the right club for them

Ekitike was happy to come here. He was just happier when Liverpool bid.

I don't think we'd have moved for players like Pedro, Mbuemo etc. if we hadn't been given encouragement. We were basically gazumped in the end by clubs who can pay bigger wages and that are more attractive than us.

Botman was waiting a lot of the summer for AC Milan to come in for him. IIRC.

We absolutely need to be targeting the best out there.  In our price range, just need to sell them on what we are trying to do, and make the numbers work.

No way they would come here unless we offer better salaries

And that’s where “right player, right price” hit. We won’t get them at the “right price” we thought.

Jonathan David to replace Wissa?

https://www.tuttojuve.com/esclusive-tj/tj-offerta-a-sorpresa-per-un-flop-della-stagione-779602

Thought he made a terrible decision joining Juve last season. Never really saw that working out.

We've seemingly followed him ever since even the takeover days and were in contention to get him as a free agent, and probably would have if we had made an earlier call on moving Isak, and so not surprised to see this link pop up.

Doubt it, he went for free so will be on a massive we've at Juve. Having to pay a fee plus that massive wedge seems mad.

Aye not sure how that would play out. Can't see Juve losing both David AND Vlahovic this summer. David has been rotten this season as well by all accounts.

Agents will always give us plenty of encouragement. It helps force a bid from a club they actually want to sign for and enables them to say “we have x salary on the table”. We were used to grease the wheels last summer, it seemed very obvious at times, especially by the time the Sesko bid went in.

I think it's fair to say that trying to shop in the same market as the cartel probably was a mistake yes.

But at the same time that's talking what happened after the fact. If you asked me before it happened I would have considered the players gettable with CL and winning a cup etc.

So I don't blame the club for it, the real mistake for me was not hiring someone in the short term to get deals done.

But anyway it's done now, as long mistakes aren't repeated.

Will depend on how highly we rate him I imagine. We've tracked him for forever it feels like.

How much do you reckon he's on at Juve and how much do you think they'd be after considering he hasn't settled in well there?

I've seen reports he'll be available on loan initially with an option or obligation, or a fee of 30 million euros outright, but hard to be certain till any bids start going in. Wages seem to be reported as anywhere from £150,000 to £180,000 a week.

There was only a handful of players we could target to replace Isak and every player either rejected us or their clubs hiked up the price

We got more and more desperate and were willing to overpay on the likes of Wissa, Strand Larsen etc

No I mean targetting better players. Botman and Bruno were better players. But their circumstances also meant they saw us as a step up. Why can’t we target better players that see us as the fulfilment of a dream? Dean Huijsen before Bournemouth, a better player who’d have been desperate to join us. That’s just one example. Many African players jump at the chance of going to the EPL.

I don’t know if the problem is lack of scouting, or Eddie’s lack of trust in our scouting of foreign-based profiles, or his suspicion it’ll take too long to integrate those players, or lack of belief in the growth potential of championship players (Bowen, Eze, Olise, Scott all players that did well in championship and made the step up). We should prioritise good players for whom we can compete.

Anyway, I’d like every signing be hungry as funk to sign!

I wonder if the order we went for players had a bearing on who we missed out on as well.

By the time we got to Sesko all of the other movers and shakers in the forward world had exited the market, would ManU have come in for him had we moved 1st July for example?

Either way, we were definitely the consolation price for all the strikers we went for bar Wissa (Wolte would have ended up in Bayern if they hadn't pulled out), that was a mistake in assuming we were at that table (fans expectations included). We're not at the 2am pity pull stage by any means, but we ain't getting early 00's Elisha Cuthbert into bed when Timberlake's on the dance floor

Yes to Jonathan David, really believe Howe could improve areas of his game. Rumours are Juve are willing to loan him out. We should explore that with option to purchase.

Needs to happen before the world cup though.

His stock might be lower now but could jettison if Canada click at the WC.

Feel like we can draw this out a while yet to get a bidding war going, so I’d hope Barca are paying a big enough fee if this is getting closed already.

Do barca have any levers left though?

Both Barca and Madrid Reddit have this guy as a tier 5 source.

I’d prefer getting talent coming off a bad season than zero talent coming off a good season.
