Think part of the reason he doesn’t get the praise he deserves is that his game is relatively simple and he does things that are so clinical. It just gets taken for granted. He’s very close to being the most clinical finisher in the premier league. It’s fucking mad how he doesn’t get more respect

Pretty much. At the real top sides, you need more to your game in final third, which is why someone like Bowen has never interested those sides. He’s clinical, high output but can disappear easily.

Semenyo to me is also similar which is why his transfer to Man City will have a very short shelf life IMO. Doesn’t score, he’s nothing to them.

I wonder why he doesn't get lauded as much as some across football. He's genuinely a massive talent. His stats show his passing is really well shared in all directions, and our eyes tell us his directness can often bring a goal/success. I LOVED his goal, yesterday.

He also talks very very well, when interviewed. He's a smart lad.

Maybe it's because his appearance is quite vanilla. Like, smart, but not stupid whacky/gasping for attention.

I suppose it benefits us. But he's totally up there with some of the best in this league.

He scored double figures in his last 3 years with Leicester so it's not as if it's just crept up on us. He'd have been getting about 15 each season for us if he'd been played as much as he has this season, too.

Wonder if he could play more of a number 10 / second striker kind of role in a more attacking lineup, where he's given a bit more freedom to move around and find those runs and pockets of space.

Could help make the most of his best qualities: His pace, off the ball movement (particularly runs from deep),and finishing off either foot.

Especially with Big Nick up front, Barnes could provide that constant threat in behind when Nick drops deep.

Average positions from the game suggests he might well have been playing that exact role.

On a Hearts forum and they have a thread about the pros & cons for him playing for Scotland. I do like this nickname for the manager, though.

What a lifting graphic. Why have they made us red and white and PSV black and white?

Barnes is definitely Mane like actually. Mane-lite maybe.

In that both a little under-rated due to a lack of flash at their level. Quick but not the best dribblers at their level. Good off the ball movement, very composed and clinical finishers.

Trent to Mane was a big reason Liverpool were resillient against deep blocks. Trent is going to find a great pass and Mane will make the run.

I think it's mostly because he doesn't go past players, at best he'll give himself some space to get a cross in, and that works as well. Gordon has got more pace so he can get beyond the full backs. Neither of them are that tricky as an ASM would be, but both are more intelligent when it comes to releasing the ball.

It's annoying he has to start on the left, as you can see him having to work really hard to work himself back over the left to get shots away.

Gordon would be best on the right. He's probably better at taking folk on and going down the line to get crosses in. But alas.

There's been a few comments here and there about him drifting from the right into the pockets behind the striker, let's see more of that

Definitely could work if you've got an attacking full-back and a strong RCM.

I wrote a post quite early on in this thread (Leicester fan), pleasing to see him getting the love he deserves. It's a bit ridiculous to say but if he had a sleeve and a mullet he'd be rated far higher in mainstream circles. Instead he's quiet, humble and effective which is a bit incongruous with what good footballers are expected to look like in 2026.

It's criminal he only has 1 England cap, he should go to the World Cup anyway but the idea of him being one cap wonder is offensive.

He’s been outstanding for us. I love that he is so humble and down to earth. Oh and a lethal finisher.

I looked back my first post, I said he'll regular score 10+ maybe pushing up to 15.

He's been a bit unlucky that he doesn't seem to start 35 league games a season, if he had started more I think he could have made the 100 club.

Get him on the left next week and get that Bobby Sands cunt out of the side.

i don’t know why so many people here think Barnes on the left and Gordon right or dropped is the solution. Barnes has been here for 2.5 years and I have seen many times even on the left he was anonymous and offered little. Teams know he likes to cut in so these days he doesn’t get much space to shoot.

And come on, have some respect and give credit to Gordon. He has 6 goals and 2 assists in CL, a total of 8 G+A which is 2nd only to Mbappe.

Worst game for quite some time for him. Even showed some aggression and frustration, which isn’t like him.

It was hilarious and frustrating in equal measure when he decided to go and shove Maatsen mid-run

Gordon has been utter shit in the PL for a long time and you know it. There’s no defence for keeping him in the team at this point.
