i don’t know why so many people here think Barnes on the left and Gordon right or dropped is the solution. Barnes has been here for 2.5 years and I have seen many times even on the left he was anonymous and offered little. Teams know he likes to cut in so these days he doesn’t get much space to shoot.

And come on, have some respect and give credit to Gordon. He has 6 goals and 2 assists in CL, a total of 8 G+A which is 2nd only to Mbappe.

Barnes is a much more effective left winger than Gordon. The only things gordon is better at are taking penalties and beating his man on the outside, which looks great but rarely comes to anything.

His CL penalties are carrying him massively, he's spent the majority of this season and last offering almost nothing from the wing.

His other killer attribute is how well he markets himself. His "nice to assist you" post to Isak summed him up, his entire persona is all about selling an image of himself that doesn't actually hold true to reality.

Worst game for quite some time for him. Even showed some aggression and frustration, which isn’t like him.

It was hilarious and frustrating in equal measure when he decided to go and shove Maatsen mid-run

He's a great finisher, but up against a pacy fullback, he's not going to beat them one on one. Needs someone overlapping to get the best out of him.

Like I said. The ‘easier’ ones he seems to snatch at. Then he finishes ones that are fairly low quality.

Bringing him and Gordon on was a masterstroke and they linked really well. On another night they win the game for us.

Oh well.

Thought he was unlucky. First chance he's straining and unbalanced and the second he's just abit too wide, perhaps if being critical the left foot shot could have been better option.

But fine margins and could have been the hero. Still wouldn't have wanted anyone else to have those chances so would always back Harvey.

He has a habit of slashing at chances coming across to the back post.  Usually on the other side, but he missed that one against City and also Spurs in the cup.

Give him the top corner from 20 yards or the one on one slotted in the bottom corner.  He's not interested otherwise

Trying not to get too down on the fact that would have seen us 5th and with a much more favourable draw coming up and skipping the play-offs entirely.  It's been a decent campaign already and we've performed in every game we've played.  Ah well.  Fine margins.

Even after everything I've just said.  I'd still say if you want the ball to fall to anyone in the box for a chance in our team, it would be Barnes.

He got brought off and I still don't understand why howe does it, he had a great effort that was our only chance on target second half.

And he always has a goal in him.

He was very anonymous I thought.

He hit a couple of good sots, but he couldn't get past the full backs even once.

Has one poor or quieter game and people are all over him. Thiaw, Pope, Trippier, Tonali and Ramsey were all worse than him tonight.

About our only player who could pull a rabbit out of a hat at the moment. He should be the first name on the teamsheet.

Poor game. Dominated by Szob physically as predicted. Yet still our main goal threat. Nearly another couple or crackers for the collection.

It’s your classic Barnes really. One of the reasons I don’t get the clamour to play him on the left, he does more or less the same off each flank.

Yes and no. I’ve said on here I think he’s improved parts of his game this season. His link up, passing and winning the ball back to recycle possession after a cross, set piece or whatever. Have all been noticeable.

This did feel more like the old Barnes, aye. But he’s had 2 of our 3 good quality shots and was unlucky not to score again.

Fair and I’m probably being a little harsh but if he’s up against someone strong/rapid and doesn’t have a give and go on his open play bar shots is always going to be pretty limited.

So unlucky on that FK mind. Would’ve been a class goal too.
