Newcastle United 5-1 Aston Villa - 12/08/23

Recommended Posts

They're getting through our midfield a bit too easily. If Villa start playing with a bit more belief we could be in trouble.

Barnes for Miggy would bring about an improvement.

Bruno looks like he's searching for a role.

How are Cash and Kamara not on yellows?

Didn’t see the new rules you fool? To get a yellow you need  to clothesline someone through on goal… or moan at the ref.

I think we have been better than Villa, they have resorted to a lot of punts over the top.

We need to keep it tight and maintain the press, their defence is suffering tryi g to bring the ball out.

He needs to wake up, getting caught on the ball at times like he did last season.

I feel like we started well but are a bit lucky to be ahead, think we have been a bit sloppy in possession.

Villa are good man.

We're going to have to work hard for the result.

Botman getting a yellow there was really bloody stupid too. Just get the hell off the pitch. Not happy at all with him having to manage that in the second half now.

Been a really weird game that, been some high octane stuff intertwined with some everything feeling flat.

Gordon and Joelinton has been class. There are a few that's passing is slightly off, and who's first touch is a bit rusty, which is to be expected first game of the season. Still 2-1 up at half-time. Can't complain too much.

Slower pace has suited Villa. Not sure if we couldn't keep up the intensity or just recharging to go again. But they couldn't live with the early pace.

Miggy was super quiet. Didn't touch the ball for 20+ mins and Bruno hasn't looked quite on it. Everyone else playing really well.

Bruno needs to drop back into the pocket and control midfield. Our centre backs are not finding the midfield

Exactly, it looks we are literally playing without a holding midfielder. All our three midfielders move up when we are trying to score and leave this massive void in front of our defense. Aston Villa is simply walking through that space without any challenge.
