I once thought a good strategy for a PL club would be to sign all the best non-internationals. But then I realised if they did well for you they’d get called up anyway

Creative thinking though. I like it.

Hey kids, look what happens when you leave Chelsea to come and play first team football at Newcastle...

One of the upsides of these top clubs spending huge sums.

Just stay alert and pick off their academy talents that aren't getting a look in. Especially when we can show them examples like Hall.

Well done to him. Great progress he's made in just a year.

Imagine about this time last year thinking this would be where he was at.

As ever, Eddie knows best.

Yep. 1 year today we were playing Dortmund away. Hooked at HT as he struggled and got booked.

Tuchel gave him his first start and moved him from midfield to LB.

He must think they are idiots for selling him then.

Very happy for Lewis. Within the last 12 months was probably a low point of his football playing life.

Another player Eddie has developed exceptionally well.

So, were mistakes made and questions need to be asked? Or is that cancelled now?

We'll never know either way.

I mean does Lewis hall get any credit or is it all Eddie?

Eddie Howe on Lewis Hall after the full-back was called up to the England senior squad for the first time this week:

"I'm delighted for Lewis. He's had a really good start to the season. Very consistent and mature displays. There's still a lot more to come from him. We're seeing him evolve and develop. He's adding layers to his game. Its a great achievement for someone so young, we're delighted for him. We signed a very talented player, there's no doubt about that. He just had a few things to work on, as we all do. The most impressive thing was he committed to that. The work he put in behind the scenes that nobody sees. Credit to him for doing that and he's now reaping the rewards."

Just buy norwegian players, some of them are good, but they will still never qualify for any big tournament to play during the summer.;)

I'd like to see him having some free kick attempts on goal

He's got great shooting and passing technique so I'm sure this is something he'll have in his locker

apart from Schar and Tripps I can't remember anyone else taking them in recent seasons, and their success rate not too great the last couple of years

think it would be good to mix it up - same applies to Tonali

He was always going to be class. Like I’ve said before, I couldn’t believe we managed to get him.

He was a bit young to be trusted from the get-go, but if we’d waited two years he would’ve been playing for another top club.
