Another player doing well. Quick! Lets find out where we can play him out of position!

He played all over for Chelsea and we saw he wasn't a LB by inclination when he first came.

The game is full of players who can be equally as effective in more than one position or who moved positions during their career, especially when young.

Hall was a CM more than a LB at Chelsea through the ranks btw.

He has the right ball control for it too.

it’s the lack of size /athleticism / aggression that he doesn’t have for CM.

7th most progressive passer (and most progressive full back outright) p/90 in the league so far. He is really starting to fill the gap Trippier's left in terms of our ball progression.

That Schar and Hall are that far up there is really, really remarkable given our poor possession numbers.

Feels odd Trent isn't on that list.

bit of a change of style for them this season, isn't it. More boring and less direct.

Most of their progression is going through their CBs in Van Dijk and Konate - as seems to be the case with all of the dull control teams.

Trent is still providing the most xT for them though. They should probably use him more often.

Played 18 out of 69 games at CM for Chelsea at age group level in his last three years there

Also played CB,LW,LCM,LB. Both he and Howe said he spent last season learning how to play LB, He's a very good technician more than a positionist (yes I've probably just made that word up but it works) and he's young. Didn't Bale start out playing LB so he could see the game better  but wasn't actually a LB ?

Steven Taylor used to be a striker and Andy Carroll was a winger at youth level. Struggle to see it as a very good point why we should try to shoehorn Hall into a position he hasn't played at a senior level, that he hasn't played in for at least 3 years. Lets just play players in the positions they are trained in and most comfortable playing in?

Fullback is very much a learnt position. Most are failed CBs, CMs and Wingers.

The season before we signed him, he played most of his first team games at LM. And played the most amount of games at CM/DM overall. This idea that he can only be a left back is too early in his development to confirm imo.

I Don’t think Hall has the football IQ of Reece James which might be the difference. But I think he has a similar level of overall footballing ability (touch, dribble). And Transfermakt doesn’t seem to have the games. But I remember James playing in midfield for Chelsea under Tuchel a number of times (perhaps after starting at CB/RB/RWB) and looking seamless. But James is a very clever player and he played a lot at CM in the Championship too.

Think James would be a great sitter for England actually. Less work on the knees than RB.
