Tino offering the defensive steel while Hall goes forward, but neither being a big liability going the other way so they can swap that role from time to time to keep opponents on their toes. The way Hall plays he's going to get the plaudits but I hope it doesn't lead people to think Tino is a disappointment by comparison as he's still on course to be a fantastic player, just in a different mould. Hall is great in the air, for example. Edited Saturday at 20:06 by AyeDubbleYoo

Yeah, I agree. Me, I love good defending and good defenders, and so I really like Tino. Got great height, speed, strength and athleticism at full back. He has all the attributes and stamina to be a threat going forward too, and just needs to work on his final ball. There was a point with Trippier where he was giving away so many chances at the far post defensively, and those have all been shut down since Tino came in. He's a beast defensively. I can't really remember the last left winger that really caused us major problems since he came in.

I'm sure I remember Livramento being a real threat down the right hand side for Southampton- bombing down the wing and playing so far forward sometimes he was almost looking like a winger. IIRC there were some Southampton fans commenting that he could be the next Bale when we signed him (or was it an ex teammate making comments to that effect?) Definitely agree he has the tools to develop that side of his game a great deal and really kick on.
54 Posted Saturday at 21:33 Share Posted Saturday at 21:33 Lewis Hall had the most touches, played the most passes, AND created the most chances for Newcastle in their 4-0 win against Leicester!
Kid Icarus Posted Saturday at 21:56 Share Posted Saturday at 21:56 (edited) Not surprising. Caveat, yes Leicester were shit, but he was almost immaculate. For me player of the season so far is between him, Isak, and Burn all for very different reasons. Edited Saturday at 21:56 by Kid Icarus

wormy Posted Saturday at 22:13 Share Posted Saturday at 22:13 I haven't been able to catch a replay of the match yet but watching the goals it's so satisfying to watch AG make use of him. It's been a bit frustrating at times seeing him make a good run and get ignored by someone favouring to just cut inside or pass to someone a less threatening position. Hopefully this is the realisation of how far he could go in replacing Trips's attacking contribution.

Hall moving forward with the ball is absolute sex though.

AyeDubbleYoo Posted Saturday at 23:05 Share Posted Saturday at 23:05 Today was a genuinely amazing performance for such a young lad. You can tell how much he's been coached up through elite development systems. Made one run in the inside channel with the ball that very few fullbacks of any level of experience can do . AyeDubbleYoo Posted Sunday at 10:22 Share Posted Sunday at 10:22 (edited) Hopefully Hall and Gordon both know that they could form Newcastle and England’s left side for years to come. If they can develop a good relationship then they’ll be sorted. It was nice to see Gordon using Hall on the overlap a couple of times at least. Gordon was very positive in giving the ball to others in general yesterday. Edited Sunday at 10:23 by AyeDubbleYoo

Tino was exactly this at Southampton - kind of similar in style to Cafu - Shame he isn’t being provided with that freedom in our set up - it may be because we lack a RCB with pace so he needs to hold his position, and we don’t have an inverted winger meaning he doesn’t have the space to run into

Mbuemo gave him a bit of a torrid time down there, so would like to think he'll be better prepared this time round.
