Manchester City 1-0 Newcastle United (19/08/23)

They did this to Man Utd last season, when they’re up for it and on it teams can barely lay a glove on them.

We can’t play much worse though, to look inwardly a bit, quite a few looking a bit rattled by their quality.

What the fuck has happened to Joelinton’s energy and attitude?

We're sitting off them and closing space for the most part.

Not the game to go charging about after players the whole game.

Think we've been solid defensively for the majority.

Need to play with more urgency when we have the ball. Letting them get back into defensive shape by slowing things down.

Just no movement when we do have the ball, like no player just making that 1 or two steps away from their marker.

Almiróns inability to cross is hindering us as well. It’s great running at players and cutting on the inside when you are playing the likes of Palace, but Man City have that fullback who won’t fall for it, and another player cutting in to defend.

I get that these are very good, but when we have had the ball it’s been sloppy. Taking too long to make a decision, too many backwards passes putting us under pressure in and around our own box. No one turning to make a forward pass.

Not sure what people are expecting almiron to do here [emoji38]

Bruno good. Botman great. Nobody else is really offering much.

Actually, think Almiron is the only fucker making any runs off the ball. The midfield three are so static and no one is breaking behind. Big Joe notably.

Not sure if this is Howe's ask but it's been quite flat and very slow.

Left side is exposed. Gordon has a habit of drifting inwards, then when possession is lost the gap between himself and Burn is enormous.

Walker having so much freedom on that side.

Our midfield is not really in the game in an attacking sense, very low energy,  if either side looked like they'd played midweek and traveled back and forth it's us.

City dominated that half.

People going on like we aren't playing the dominant force in Europe

They've only done this to Real Madrid, Bayern, Arsenal, etc.

But stop them creating space, stop being rushed on the ball, be more incisive, basically do what almost every team in Europe has failed to do at the Etihad for a good year.

Tbf I've not seen anyone saying they aren't top quality, Prophet. A few individual performances are disappointing and that's all it takes for it to look like men against boys out there, we need everyone dialled in at 100% to even stand a chance of making a game of it.

Three problems first half almiron not going on the outside to make the defender think twice next time. Gordon is getting no one two options from burn and joelinton which in turn is making us go to the right. And Isaak is getting isolated.

It's also worth noting that Pep has had six or seven years to essentially build the best club side going.

His system has been built and tweaked to the point of perfection. I don't think it's quality of individuals killing us here, it's just brilliant spacing and momentum with 11 players (9 of who were in this team last year) knowing exactly where and how to play the ball. Their strategy is to create little fires across the final third.

Think it's obviously frustrating that when Gordon drags Walker into the middle pitch then the space is available down the left wing but Burn just doesn't have the ability or pace to exploit it

City have passed it really well from the back mind

Yeah, only joe responds to him, but then you create another hole in the midfield when Joe moves wide.
