Lloyd Kelly

He’s got everything you need to be a good CB. With a run of games and coaching/ tactical awareness I think he’d be more than useful. He doesn’t look quite at home imo.

Anything under 15M would be poor business other than getting a wage off the books. Unless we can replace like for like with Tomori or close to like for like.

And we’ve just signed the bloke. People talking about ‘opportunity to get rid’ seems a bit odd.

I feel like the overall opinion of him (mine included) has been tainted by that spell at left back when he’s never ever a left back - similar to Burn.

As above I think with game time he’ll be decent cover.

How? did you see anything from him to suggest that he can hold a place in the team and not make us look weaker if our main players get injured?

Maybe he is here for depth, but it's a bit daft to say he looks 'Championship at best' when he has been playing pretty well at PL level for the past couple seasons.

Are there any teams (City aside) who look just as strong when a squad player comes in to cover for an injury?

Why sell to Turkey now when we are more likely to have clubs like West Ham (Potter would love him) or Everton sniffing in the summer.

We know hes a really solid PL CB, even if he hasn't shown it for us yet. There will be loads of clubs, with more money, who would come in for him if we were willing sellers.

Not being good enough for a team aiming for the CL does not necessarily mean that same player isn't good enough for any other team in the league [emoji38]

Jacob Murphy is the best championship player ever.

Lloyd Kelly is now a write off and if we don't accept whatever we are offered it's a clear indication that the ownership don't know what they are doing. [emoji38]

As a fan base, we're excellent at writing off lads who don't settle immediately. See Gordon, Barnes and Hall.

That's before the hounding of players who clearly care and have been good servants, but are no longer deemed to be of the required quality.

For me the thing with Kelly is all about his wages, which in fairness we can’t know for absolutely certain (but the club do).

Despite not impressing much so far I have complete faith in Howe and the coaching staff that they can make Kelly into a more than adequate squad option at center back, and a fallback option at left back. I am therefore happy to see him stay in principle.

That said if (big if) his reported wage of 150k base per week is true, that makes him

one of the best paid players in the squad, and he’s certainly not fulfilling that role in the squad right now. So IF true (and the club will know) I’d seriously entertain any transfer options for him. We have cover at the moment and we could then plan for the summer knowing a massive wage on a long contract and which will be very hard to shift, is off the wage bill.

I can’t however see any Turkish club paying Lloyd Kelly anywhere near that reported wage, so this whole thing is a non-starter anyway.

That one bad game against West Ham has really done some damage for his reputation it appears.

Most questioned the signing prior, and each performance hasn’t helped change viewpoints.

Best arguments people have are “He’s a good 3rd choice at LCB/LB”. THIRD CHOICE

People lose their shit over DCL being 3rd choice striker.

He's pretty bang average, a cheap stop gap when we need cover. He was never going to set the world alight but he's a decent squad filler. West Ham apart I think he's been pretty steady tbh.

I'm happy for the lad to stay because he could become a good squad option in time, but equally I think he looks more and more like the next Matt Targett transfer misstep.

If you get a solid offer for him, £10m+, I think you seriously consider it tbh. An offer like that might not come along again.

I get the impression we're actively shopping around a lot of our squad players this winter tbh.

If we got an decent offer, should absolutely sell.

A high wage OK back up is all he is anyway.

I'd argue this for about 90% of the playing squad. Paul Mitchell, I hope you start cooking soon.

i'd keep him if we had the chance but PSR says otherwise.

we've got to consider any offer we get for any of the non-purples.

People said exactly the same over the Gordon signing.

He needs a run of games to be properly judged or find some form.  I'm just not sue he's going to get that unless Botman and Burn get injured for a long time.  He's only going to get cup games and minutes at the end of games like he got at Arsenal, if not.

I'd even say if Targett stays fit.  He might even be ahead of him as the backup LB.  As his skillset is closer to what Hall offers.  But for certain games, he could do a job there, of course.

I thought he was going to push Burn for more minutes.  But BDB has been brilliant and is probably playing the best football of his career.  Certainly here, anyway.  Plus we know Eddie likes at least one of his CB's to be dominant aerially and Kelly looks dreadful in the air.

I was very happy when we were linked to both Tosin and Kelly and thought they would be decent free signings.  Not that arsed about missing out on Tosin now and Kelly has got less minutes and not been as good as I'd hoped.  But I'd be surprised if he'd played 5 games worth of minutes for us.

I think some of the stick coming his way seems to be based on people quoting that he is on anywhere from £100k-150k a week like it is gospel.  I know he was on a free, but I just don't buy that.  Guessing he could have more than doubled his wages leaving Bournemouth if we gave him say, £60k-70k?  It's all guesswork, of course.  So I find the constant mention of his wages a bit odd.

If he was on 100-150 bags a week.  He would be in our top 3-4 earners, no?
