I guess they could view it like Tino and Hall. Not an obvious position of need that needs upgrading right away and we have other areas that need addressing far more urgently IMO. But if the deal is there to be done. At a price they’re happy with and it also means we get in there before others. Then I can understand it. I do agree that £30-40m for a keeper when we need to strengthen 3-4 outfield positions is steep. Especially if we do have a limited budget that won’t stretch too far. I also don’t think it is a ‘snip’ like plenty of others. Who think it’s a low risk, can’t lose kind of deal.
duo Posted yesterday at 17:18 Share Posted yesterday at 17:18 tbh £40 mil for someone who could potentially be our Number 1 for the next decade isn't so bad

Barnes23 Posted yesterday at 17:45 Share Posted yesterday at 17:45 I hope Trafford turns out in the long run to be a level above Pickford, should we sign him. Those comparisons shouldn't hold much weight if we're aiming to get to the top.
wyn davies Posted yesterday at 17:52 Share Posted yesterday at 17:52 £40m knock it on the head, run with Pope and Dubs or Howe is gonna have to have a massive rethink , scrap all this premier proven nonsense and look abroad, other EPL teams do and come up trumps, appears to me he wants to drive a Ferrari and not go with a Mclaren. Isaks on his arse by the end of the season and we have a shed loads extra games next season, we have no cover on the right, an ageing defence and one or two mids out from longstaffs playing. GK can wait for me personally- if it comes up for the right price then great otherwise no biggie for me.

BonesJones Posted yesterday at 18:24 Share Posted yesterday at 18:24 For me personally I get the whole we have other areas to improve, but I think thats underestimating the transformation across the entire team 'if' Trafford is good with his feet. With Pope I doubt the defence feels massively confident passing back to him, and if they do then they sure as hell dont know what will be coming back. With a GK that has feet it would be like having an extra man/option on the pitch, its huge. But yeh I want a RW aswell, way more exciting cant lie! We have to spend on a GK eventually. So it’s either we don’t this season, miss out on Trafford, then still spend reasonably well next summer on a GK. All whilst potentially Pope getting injured again and needing to roll out Dubravka still in 2026. I can’t see why we can’t spent what we would have budgeted this summer, then even more for the GK, seeing Trafford would be out GK till like 2034 at least. Sibierski Posted yesterday at 18:38 Share Posted yesterday at 18:38 Like we wanted to sign a GK last summer. Don’t this summer, that’s two in a row. What’s the difference to not signing a RW because we’ve got Murphy? His output and contribution has been even more key than Pope.
JUICE690 Posted yesterday at 18:54 Share Posted yesterday at 18:54 We're not going to fuck ourselves over by paying too much for Trafford, mental. Sure Eddie has a better idea on our finances than folk on a forum.

kingxlnc Posted yesterday at 19:25 Share Posted yesterday at 19:25 I’d actually rather get Maignan for 17m or whatever it is. buy potential later when we have spare cash. maignan is actually a purple and would be as big an upgrade as pope was for dubravka
