Dominic Calvert-Lewin (playing for Leeds United)

Recommended Posts

Individually without a broader context, this signing is shit. In the context of deputising for Isak, PSR, other priorities, on a free, this makes sense to me. Depending on appearances but using cups and rotations for a rough guess then:

0-3 G/A = poor / low value

4-8 G/A = becomes a good signing quite quickly given above.

8 + G/A = very good signing

Broken toe injury shouldnt worry us, needs to get his hamstring fully healthy.

Carroll could hardly move when he rocked up under Bruce. DCL obviously has fitness issues but he's only 28 and still been a regular in the Everton side.

Carroll was only 3 years older and is still playing. I’d bet my mortgage DCL won’t still be playing at 36.

yes, he has been a regular in the Everton side but doesn’t score goals

If this happens, it will be the biggest disappointment since the Ashley days in my opinion. Wilson has been let go, yet we bring in someone who's return is in a ball park area, and someone who spends as much time with the physios as Wilson did. Just bonkers to me, but hey.

Definitely will not be happy about this one, may he prove me wrong, possibly? But I have a lot of doubts about this.

He’s absolutely useless. Can our scouts not find an emerging talent like Fulham did with Muniz, or anyone like that?

I think it's Eddie's call, he wants someone he knows he can do the job he wants right now.

Well think about it. Howe was reportedly very keen on him a couple of years ago. He's now available on a free, probably not outrageous wages given his injury record and he's still only 28.

Then add to that we could use our limited budget to spend big on other areas which are crucial and you can sort of see the logic. Oh yeah I forgot to mention, he'll be a PL striker who will be happy to be Isak's back up.

Yeh I've thought about it. In the last 2 years he's scored 8 goals in open play in 60 matches. He's also underperformed his Xg consistently throughout his career. Bebe was preferred to him by the end of the season.

2 years ago, it was a decent shout. 2 years ago, Callum Wilson was one of the best strikers in the PL.

Aye he's a warm body. But I don't think he's any better than playing Gordon upfront personally. Rather give Osula more minutes.

Had him for weeks in FPL last season. Watched him closely.

He was fucking awful. Everything about him.

Everton were pretty bad but they did create a few good chances for him. He'd either miss them or be offside.

When we cant break down a low block, he gives a 'stick it in the mixer' option.

This is a player who we’d be hoping to play more than just a handful of times because Isak will need the odd game on the bench or rested completely. It’s not just case of sub him on when we run out of ideas

One of those where it looks a bad signing but has the potential to be OK. If the best case scenario happens and he actually can contribute, it will look decent. Can’t say I expect that to happen or want to risk it mind.

That said, anyone we can get to come and be permanent backup will probably have some questions over them. Otherwise they wouldn’t play the role.

I'm not particularly a fan either tbh, but you missed out the Howe connection. At the end of the day it's him who will say yes or no.

agreed however giving a 3 year deal on possibly high wages to a player who hasn't cut it for a number of years doesn't really fill me with confidence. Isak was regularly gassed at 60 mins and with the number of games I could see a worth while back up picking up regular mins and quite a number of starts, obviously selling that to a player may be difficult.

I guess the issue is the budget and the other areas we need to sign anyone good will be a lot of money or will have something that will make them a risk and lower there transfer fee, the "one injury away from you having to lead the line" is a powerful motivator to a fan to want to go out and get someone good but to a player with an ego its not a guarantee of mins at all.
