If I've got an old TV for the spare room that needs replacing, I might buy a second hand TV that needs some TLC but ultimately does its job.

If its job is to score goals and can’t do that, I’d argue it’s better off not buying the second hand TV.

Nah, You buy a new TV for the lounge and move the old one to the spare room.

For once I’m glad Luke has a 0/12 hit rate. No chance we sign him.

"Player has other options". Imagine we try for this bum and he chooses somewhere else man [emoji38]

Suppose it would just be a continuation of the summer so far really, losing out on our first choice, wanting Callum Wilson to renew but he decided otherwise (at least I think that's what happened there), I mean judging by that we must be fucking desperate.

Wonder what the actual plan is, would seem a massive shift in plans targeting the likes of Cunha and Pedro, to then settling for DCL.

Aye, think the alternative would be to go for a direct Wilson replacement and a midfielder.

I hope we sign him. I think we overplay Isak, and towards the end of the season, he seemed to be saving himself. Isak is an unusual shape for a footballer, and I seem to remember reading that he has a specialist physiotherapist of his own, as a result. Genetically, he looks very much East African Nilotic to me, and they tend to be long-distance athletes rather than sprinters or footballers.

With all the extra fixtures, I could see DCL starting a few games, and not just being a sub or acting as a replacement if injury strikes.

When fit, DCL is a class act. Eddie has a good record of restoring careers that have stalled. This could be another one.

I think he can hold the ball up better than Isak and he’s arguably more of an aerial threat, and we cross the ball a lot.

Those are the positives…I can see him being useful if he can stay fit and really applies himself.

There's surely no way on earth we had our best attacking options as:

Joao Pedro / Cunha (nothing wrong with targeting these but was always possible another club would come in and be able to offer better terms)

Beg Wilson to stay

DCL

It's an incredible leap really.

Cunha and Pedro were bought by teams with bottomless pits of money, aided by cheating rules.

We're not settling for less, we just have to adjust to whoever is the next best if one of cheating six come in for a player.

Next best is not DCL mind, but I have the feeling Eddie likes him, so I'm not going to argue with his judgement if he does.

Would never expect anyone to be doing cartwheels at the thought of signing DCL but the complete opposition to the signing from some I find a bit much. We've got 2 problems right now - lots of gaps in the squad and not a huge amount of money to fix them. One of those holes is cover for Isak - he's the crown jewel and needs to be looked after and that means we need cover. I'm not going to say I'd be delighted with getting DCL in but the signing makes sense*. No transfer fee which means more to spend on other areas. He's miles away from the marquee signings we all love but the move does have logic to it. Between him and Osula it means we can keep Isak fresh and hopefully firing. He's never ever going to be anyone's first choice XI but he could be a handy option off the bench, no more, no less

*Fitness permitting obviously but that applies to every single signing
