Paul Mitchell - Leaves Club (Hope); No He Hasn't (Edwards)

Recommended Posts

It would be a mess if we didnt have any people in charge to do the dealings, but Nickson/A Howe/Eales have done this before. But I agree the next director cant be a car crash.

From a Liverpool news site about Julian Ward's background/experience: https://www.daveockop.com/transfer-news/newcastle-united-show-interest-in-julian-ward/

"Julian Ward first joined Liverpool in October 2012 as European Scouting Manager for the Spain and Portugal regions, having previously worked in Manchester City’s scouting setup and on Carlos Queiroz’s Portugal national team staff.

Over the next three years he developed Liverpool’s loan pathways and partnerships, taking up the role of Loan Pathways & Football Partnerships Manager in late 2015 and establishing the club’s loan department.

Ward’s promotion continued in December 2020 when he became Assistant Sporting Director, working directly under Michael Edwards to coordinate recruitment, oversee analytics, and negotiate transfers amid Liverpool’s title-winning period.

In June 2022, he succeeded Edwards as Sporting Director, taking charge of Liverpool’s transfer strategy and leading on high-profile signings – although it did not last long.

After stepping down at the end of the 2022–23 season, Ward was persuaded by Edwards to return to the Fenway Sports Group structure om June 2024, as group Technical Director.

In this expanded role he oversees Liverpool’s Academy, elite player development, the loan department, and a new football innovation division, as well as coordinating football operations across any future clubs added to FSG’s portfolio."

Edwards says Hope talking bollocks…

Both are absolute cunts (Edwards more) and both get most of their 'insights wrong. Mind I wouldn't mind seeing Hope give Edwards a slap. They had the same thing happen, when Hope came out about the new stadium, a few months ago.

Was that when Edwards basically said everyone needs to stop reporting about the new stadium until the club announce something...then continued to write articles about it every other week

"so far the club has only confirmed that while he may share a name with a certain famous deceased scottish hairstylist, he and Paul Mitchell are not related"

Ward would be quite the coup. Would be surprised, he only got a new deal and position last year with Liverpool. Maybe the role isn't what he was expecting though.

RE: Mitchell phoning it in. Maybe but I'd think he might want to get a player or two through the door before he leaves as it is win win for his portfolio.

If they succeed its another Mitchell signing to highlight, If they fail he can easily say he want in charge at that point etc.

Would he be a coup though ? I think I’d just leave Andy Howe and Nickson in charge of recruitment at this point.

Think Eddie is old school and likes control of everything  in terms of 1st team recruitment, have a feeling the short tenures of Ashworth and Mitchell will make anyone already employed like Ward think twice.

We need someone to oversee the academy, youth recruitment and infrastructure such as new training ground, but this role will need to be clearly defined to any candidate and rubber stamped by Howe as it’s clearly not working with a DOF.

Sounds like a better idea

Feel like Staveley was the glue. I like the idea of having a DOF, especially one with a track record of buying the JP's, Hjuisens, Caceidos before they've been coached and showcased in a premier league team. Shame whoever pushed Staveley out won that battle. The way Mitchell came in was so antagonistic and unprofessional. Can't imagine anyone coming in saying that, but to do so he'd have to have been told Eddie's going to be gone soon and we'll have total decision making power. Could have been a great thing. Our signings have very good, but to compete now, we need a good few Caceido type signings. I'll never understand why we spent all last summer on Guehi when other teams signed better defenders for less than half.

No centre-back signed to a PL team last season is better than Guehi. Milenkovic (sp?) at 12m was the best deal but he’s not a better player imo.

The lad Bournemouth have just sold ?

Ashworth didn't leave because of Eddie did he ?  He was chased and wanted by Man Utd, to link Ashworth leaving to Eddie is disingenuous a tad, don't you think ?

I find this a pretty lazy narrative.  I'm not sure where it has come from?

But why do you think Howe wants to be involved with everything?

He has final say, surely thats enough.

Do you think Ashworth would have left if he was happy in his role ? there were plenty of reports that he thought the job wasn’t as advertised and he didn’t have the autonomy to make the decisions he wanted, Joelintons contract being one well reported example.

The proof is 2 high profile DOF leaving within 24 months, pretty strong evidence that the job hasn’t been as advertised.

Thank fuck he did fuck off and we kept Joelinton then eh. Wouldn't have been winning that cup final and giving me one of the best days of me life without him for starters
