They way things have gone, I can't see why we need a sporting director.could have saved Mitchell's wages. How can man city spend 176.1 and we spend 0 and loose 2 squad players as well.

Because a sporting director isn’t just a transfer wonk

We also had absolutely fuck all by way of a transfer infrastructure. Years and years of Ashley ownership meant we pretty much had one bloke travelling around Europe - largely a cheap trip to France - to dig out players with sell-on potential.

Given we need tonight to be a bear pit, I wonder if the club would consider wheeling out Mitchell before kick off and at half time. Really get the fans riled up.

Nah. I believe in transparency towards fans, however things like this are subjects where it is damaging to share too much information.

I don’t think you can go into too much detail about things like this without risking alerting your competitors to what you have.

Don’t think this is necessary this time tbh:

Agree. Would rather they just kept quiet and let their actions speak for them in the summer.

I understood the need to after the summer, but don’t see why they need to now.

I think they should, because you know the moment we lose a couple of games on the spin some fans will be calling for various heads to roll.

The importance of purposeful and meaningful communication with the lifeblood of the club, the fans, can't be downplayed, other clubs do it and do it well and so should we. Communication has dipped since Amanda Staveley left and I hope this is the first step into repairing this crucial function of club management. It also means everything on club communication and answering questions isn't put on Eddie's shoulders, when it isn't within the remit of his job as Manager.

Honestly, people like this Twitter twat can walk into the North Sea for all I care. I cannot staaaaaaand this shit. And to top it off the guy thinks he's okay to tell the club what is and isn't within Eddie Howe's remit as manager

I don’t think it’s bad for them to provide a twice yearly update tbh.

That would be good, but they should be doing it on their terms. It shouldn't be forced because a bunch of mouth-breathing neckbeards are crying on Twitter.

The one problem I do detect is they will be downbeat and say we've got nought to spend in the summer as well. It's one of situations whereby no matter what they say at this stage it's going to be deemed as wrong/negative.

Well the truth of the matter is, our hands are somewhat tied with the PSR bullshit. I get why they might want to come out and explain it, but it's not what people want to hear, so not sure what good it will do them.

It's damned if you do damned if you don't, 3 windows of no immediate first 11 Improvements, player sales and closed up shop weeks before the window opened. Off the back of the statement they would invest the maximum they could into recruitment.

Cookie cutter shite is all I am expecting

Challenging window

Manager believes in current squad

Want to hold on to our brightest talent

Wanted to learn from frantic sales for compliance pre summer

Be patient with us we are doing all we can but must take a medium to long term view to prevent getting stuck in future windows.

Etc etc

Hopefully the (unnecessary) explanation to fans effectively doubles as lobbying against PSR. The more aggro there is towards it, the greater likelihood of change.
