What did you not like about his performance against Barca? Watching the game on tv he seemed to handle himself really well. Dribbling off his press, distributed the ball well both short and long, managed to win the ball back high up the pitch after set pieces to maintain pressure...didn't really seem, to me at least, to put a foot wrong?

Probably right which is why I'm going to shut up and not become rod.

 

I was watching him positionally and didn't like what I saw.  The switch to the 3 CBs helped him a lot I would say.

Good thing is that he hasn’t had to come in and be our starting CB with that pressure. Easing him in is a luxury we can afford and hopefully he’s settled and ready to start

Which is completely fair I think.  I thought the lad looked a lot more composed, but you could well be right that the formation switch protected some of his vulnerabilities better.  I do think though that he looked more comfortable on the ball - against Liverpool it was like watching Bramble reborn.

Yeah he has more freedom and less pressure on him when he's got two other players covering him.

His first was a booking.  It was a deliberate handball. 
 

Maybe he was getting tired.  But I thought he was getting sloppy prior.  
 

The Pope incident imo is largely Thiaw’s fault. As a CB you make sure your man is covered until you know the danger is gone, he let up too early then had to rush to make the block.  The yellow comes from some lax play then he panics and handballs it.  Then the second yellow follows a poor header then he’s just done by the Bournemouth player.  
 

For an hour or so he looked really good.

Deliberate handball is not automatically a yellow card anymore.
