Article says he was really keen over the summer.

As much as I'd love to leave Palace in the mud over this whole thing, I can see us going back in due to Howe rating him highly, and due to his enthusiasm to join.

Guess we'll see what happens. Be pretty annoying if we go over £45 million at the absolute max.

We’ve all seen how good he’s been for England and that he’s possibly had his head turned as far as Palace performances.

We’ve all seen the meme where he looks like he’s missing out on all the fun.

Despite all the talk of a £60 million bid, we apparently didn’t go that high at all. I’d be surprised to see us go over 40 tbh. Similar to the Gordon deal.

Hard to judge based on the last few months of England games mind. Ireland, Greece and Finland aren’t really tests.

We should atleast act fast with the bids, the longer it goes through the window, the less likely they are to crack. They probably need the deal to be done early ish, so they can reinvest and replace him.

That would be a great deal. Would be happy with that

Apparently Parish and Freedman have backed Glasner and blamed themselves for the poor summer window as to why Palace are struggling. They are expected to back him heavily in January to rectify it. I do think they need and will take a decent offer this time around, and probably early in the window.

We can't rely on him going on a strike though, like the Gordon deal. The Gordon deal wasn't really happening until he started forcing it (we were like £20m off their valuation and time was running out). This is a different situation though, really hard to tell what Palace will do about any bid after what they did in the summer. Could go both ways really.

Aye, I’m just banking on us not repeating the mistakes of the summer window and either getting it done or moving on early.

I read Palace are struggling for goals & don't have much budget for reinforcements.

If Guehi doesn't want to sign a new deal then this is probably the last chance to get a real top fee for him.

If they do decide to sell they might want to get it done sooner to ensure they can make signings.

They won't want to give much of discount because Parish would look silly, which means I bet we're still looking at a chonky fee. Probably more that he's worth.

On the other hand I don't really know how good he is so perhaps he is worth a chonky fee.

Cue: there will be better value on the continent etc.

BREXIT!

Yeah, that's true. There is talent there, but he's by no means the perfected finished article.

I think also taking into account his character, enthusiasm to join and Howe rating him highly, it's a deal worth doing.

Would go a long way to cementing some trust and working rapport between Mitchell and Howe and we need that more than anything right now.

There were some promising noises about how their relationship is developing in the Athletic yesterday, and if that comes together I think we are going to be unstoppable.

Agreed. As mentioned above I also think it has to happen early from Palaces perspective, if they even want to sell. Unless they start replacing him before the sale, but that doesn't seem ideal in terms of negotiations.

Yeah, if we really want him, we might have to pay a little bit extra still. He will go to a different club later if not, so we also gotta think about what he's actually worth for us. If it's either paying lets say £50-60m or not getting him at all, it doesn't really matter for us that Palace is getting a good deal for their situation. As long as it's still a good deal for us aswell. Ofcourse, we're still going to negotiate based on their situation with him regardless, and not give in too easily.

The "generational talent" was getting up 70plus million wasn't he?

6 months less contract and not so great league performance i just don't know how heavy the discount would end up being.

It is unlikely to be half price but the 40m or less is where my head would be. After that go for someone abroad 21-23 age and bed them in slower with schar as competition

For Palace it's probably even more important they keep him than the summer, avoiding relegation is the focus for them now and selling one of their best players would only assist to make things more difficult for them. The amount they'd lose from relegation is much more than the difference they'd get between our offer last summer and another offer next summer.

In terms of wanting or not wanting him, many fans also didn't want Gordon when he was struggling in a team at the lower end of the table. I have no doubt he would be a great player for us despite recent form, it's just the obvious question of how much money.
