Newcastle United vs. Leicester City: 14/12/24 @ 15:00 (No UK TV)

What is the obsession from some with playing our best player out of position?  Especially when it's to accommodate a perma-crock who looks totally past it when he's played in 2024.

Would like to see the below change for this game, Isak in a left position with Wilson through the middle, Trippier back in the shore up defence a bit but I think it would be Hall that is sacrificed with Tino at LB. Drop Joelinton.

                Pope

Tippier  Schar Burn Hall

    Sandro Bruno Willock

    Gordon Wilson Isak

How does Trippier shore up the defence when it's widely accepted that Livramento is a more solid defender than him?

Yeah if you bring Trippier in, it's more an attempt to improve the attack than defence. Leicester have some fast skillful wide players so might not be the right game to drop Tino.

Would keep Tino on, you could ruin his confidence by dropping him...

Also think we should have this midfield if willock is fit:

Bruno--tonali--willock

Gordon--isak--big J

Looks like big Joe had heavy strapping on that shoulder as early as the last international break which was before that crystal palace game, so he must have been struggling with it for longer than I thought.

Think if he can't do the things that make him impactful then we are just asking for trouble playing an injured player every game. Obviously doesn't help if Willock is injured again though.

Feels like a watershed game this one. After recent poor results against less fancied teams, we are in a position where only a win will be acceptable. Anything less and the pressure on the team and manager will really start to heat up. Also we need 3 points to keep us in touch of the European places. While it's quite lucky that other than the top 4 no one is getting consistent results, it also means there's a lot more competition for those slots.

Ndidi definitely out. With Soumare suspended we’ve got to be exploiting that.

With a centre back pairing of Conor Coady and Jannik Vestergaard too.

Our issue seems to be going behind and having to chase, especially in the second half of games.

We’ve created enough chances earlier on in games (Palace aside).

Interesting that in Gordon’s interview on sky he talks about how the team have lost the dark arts of playing and opposition are finding it easy to play against us. You’d imagine that’s been discussed on the training pitch. Maybe we see a bit of that this weekend?

I feel like someone at the club has made that comment every few weeks for a year now.

I'd like to have an account of why that's the case.

Is it lack of desire?

Change of personnel balance?

Lack of leadership? Leadership banning them? Etc etc.

Lots of talk about us missing them but not much in the way of action.

Score early and we’ll win comfortably.

If we go into half time drawing or behind I could see a disastrous scoreline, particularly as the crowd will get restless as the game goes on.
